I don't really know what I have here as she didn't come with a birthday card, and is not date stamped on the scales. I was told ATS-34, but I have no way of knowing. What I do know, is that it's as close to new as a knife this old can be. So, My question is....... would this be the one to put away and admire, Because it might be worth a great deal 10 years down the road ? ( if I live that long ). Or, do I stab it threw a soda can a few times and throw it in the pocket ? ( YOLO )
Also, if anyone has any info about this knife, please share with me. Thanks

P:S What would a knife like this be worth now?:stupid:

Some people worship Sebenza's, and only store them in a locked, bullet proof display case on the mantle. But I don't buy knives for resale value, I only buy them if they interest me. And that baby is pretty, so I'd throw it I'm my pocket and use it. But that's just me.

Looks like a 96 or 97.
Many made in 97 had scales from 96 and aren't marked. I have a 97 that isn't marked, and one that's marked A97.
They swapped to BG-42 in Oct of 1996.
I haven't seen many Regulars in ATS-34, but there are some out there.

Only you can decide whether to carry or not. I carry one of my 97's, but I also have a couple of older one's that I keep in the safe.

Would something this old have the date codes stamped on the inside of the scale?

Thanks for the info Ken. I'm not much of a collector when it comes to knives, and prefer not to have a knife I would be afraid to use. I have a couple of large regulars, one UG with spirograph demascus, a stars and stripes made on my birthday. Both came as new, and I have no problem carrying them. I've had some customs that I have paid more for than I have in this knife, and no trouble carrying those either. I guess I'm just looking for a blessing from the Bladeforums crew on packing this one. And I have 1 so far. Thanks bflying

No code on the inside of the scales.

I believe in usinging them, unless their special. That one would be considered by MANY to be special. It's an old model with a great Unique Graphic, flat clip, and ATS-34.

I don't know what you paid for it but it comes down to this in my opinion- if you like it, use it and enjoy it, but, if it doesn't really strike a nerve with you and it's just another knife I'd suggest selling it to someone who'll enjoy either using it or storing it and use the money to get a Seb that you can thrash on without wondering about it and that may "speak" to you more.

It seems weird but I have attachments to certain knives. Most would think that would mean that I'd keep those in the safe but they'd be wrong- those are the ones I enjoy using most, no matter how valuable, pretty, or special.

Only you can answer your question, but I'd suggest going with your gut😉

If you do end up using it I'd love to see some pics of it added to the user Seb threads down the road.

Have a great night.

1AbominAble1 Thank you. I feel the same about the special to me knives I have. This one just has this weird vibe to me, Like it's to HOLY to use. I'm gonna sit on it for a while until I can make my mind up about it. As soon I can get back home, I'll post some pic's of my UG spirograph demascus regular in the user thread. I have pic's of the day I got it minty fresh, and after 8 months of use in the construction field, and being dropped on the sidewalk.

Send it back to the mothership so they can tell you the bladesteel. BG-42 is harder than ATS-34, that may affect your decision to carry.

I wouldn't carry the Senenza, too many other users to choose from. How many times in a lifetime does a rare CRK come up?
I'd surely carry the Strider SnG, which I thought this thread was about originally

Great idea Lone_Wolfe. I'll call them tomorrow and see what they can do for me. I'd like to have a re-issued birthday card too. I wonder if they will do that?
It's pretty cool that this could be a first year regular sebenza.

I agree with Wolf, send it back to Idaho. They will tell you the approximate age, blade steel, and give you a new bday card.

Me, I'd use it and enjoy it. That's what it was made for. Even now that it's kind of a special, would make it even nicer to carry.

If you have in your mind that somewhere down the road, it may be used for trade bait or to sell, then store it away.

If the knife has found its forever home, then the enjoyment you derive from using that nice piece will outweigh whatever it brings at your estate sale. ;)

You won't find me saying this often but...no way Id use that knife! Like others have stated its a rare bird and will never be made again. Id send it back to CRK and get yourself info and a reissued birthcard.

I think that's s great idea, a little time to reflect will easily sort it out for you.

I'm looking forward to the pics. Spirograph is my favorite Damascus pattern, I have a small 21 user that shows the love.

Yes, they'll give you a new card with the re-issue date, and the bladesteel. Here's what the re-ish cards look like. BTW, pay attention to the hardness if they do declare that one ATS-34, which it may well be from the looks.

I would like to thank everyone who has replied. I'm gonna send this guy back to the motherland to have a card made as soon as my work allows time for it. Regardless of the outcome of steel, and as much as I don't like the thought of it, I think I can deal with having one closet queen. ( I don't have a safe ). The large regular sebenza is my favorite knife I have ever carried. And this may be the only opportunity I have to own one this cool. Like Ajack said, I have plenty other CRK's to carry. This is what I am thinking for now anyways.

If you're reluctant to carry it, you can always rehome it in favor of something you will carry. ;)
