Would you EDC a CRKT Drifter?

A friend knows I'm into knives and asked me for a cheap reliable knife he could buy to use for EDC. The CRKT Drifter can be found on multiple sites for a reasonable price and on paper it looks like it would do well in that role. Does anyone have experience with it? What are your thoughts?

I'm aware of some other options, but I'm just curious as to the reliability of this particular model. Thanks.

It actually looks like a very nice knife and it's a frame lock. I'm betting it's made in China since it's $20. If I had a choice I would pay a bit more and get something else, but I'm not sure what for $20.

That knife actually looks very good for the money. Hmm....

Yes I would carry it. I don't have one but I have many CRKT knives and all of them have been great knives. I have considered picking one up. Just have not yet.

I saw it online and thought for the money that it was a great bargain. I'm glad that other people agree. I just was surprised at how affordable it is.

I've been wanting one for a while, but never got any feedback on here, so I never pulled the trigger. It does look like a great simple knife, and would probably do anything he needed it to do.

I know you said you were aware of the options, but just in case...Byrd knives get great reviews for the same price, and for a little more, you can't go wrong with a Spydie Tenacious. Just my 2 cents. I really like the look of the drifter, though, and will probably get one eventually.

I've been thinking about getting the Tenacious for myself. Can't wait to get some disposable money to grab one. If he ends up with the Drifter I will let you know what it's like.

If I wanted a small beater then sure.
Its really nice looking knife for the price, and I'm sure it will preform ok.

I think you'll really like the Tenacious. I EDC one, and love it. As plenty of others have said, it's a lot of knife for the money.

I would appreciate any info on the Drifter if your friend ends up getting one! Thanks for the offer.

Seems like a good deal considering the price and materials. If I were considering it for an EDC I'd go ahead and buy one to try out.

But in answer to your question...
Would you EDC a CRKT Drifter?
Nah. I'm perfectly content with my Schrade USA Old Timer and my Opinel. ;)

I've got one , I do , and it's a nice little knife. At it's price point you treat it like a beater if you want to and be able to replace it with no problem.

For the materials used in it , it holds a fairly decent edge, it's nice sized and fun to use.

A couple sites I saw state it as a frame lock and some state it as a liner lock. Anyone know which one it is?

Until this thread I had never heard of this knife but I really like the looks of it a lot.

Edit:

I answered my own question by these pics I found on eBay. I have to give credit to knifegirl1 on eBay for these pics.

NEW INFO!!!

According to Knifecenter.com, the G-10 version of the Drifter is a liner lock, while the stainless-handled version is a framelock. Same price, different lock, different handle material.

Just thought y'all might like to know.

I was just about to post that info too heh. For the money, looks pretty decent. I'd also look into the Kabar Dozier lineup for $18ish too. I have the spearpoint and its a great little knife. Some of the Byrds are at that pricepoint too. Great knives too.

I will be getting one of these. Can't beat it for the price. Plus the steel I have had experience with in the past and it's been perfect.

Booyah! Looks like a quality knife for a good price. I mean dang, $25 shipped. WOW

I have the Frame lock Drifter. Great knife. Locks up tight and does not say China anywhere on the knife:D. Probably the best knife you buy for under $20.

Thanks for the info Wunderbar. The G10 plain blade model was just ordered. I'll post some pics and my thoughts when I get my hands on it. I appreciate everybody's input.

I thought it was ironic that nutnfancy just posted a vid review on a Kel-Tec PF-9 and he uses a Drifter as a pointer. Now that I'm aware of it, the knife seems to be popping up everywhere.

I got some pictures of the new knife.

I will either write up a review or record one and post a link to it on youtube. I'm not sure which I want to do, but I will do one of them this week.
