Would you ever...?

...carry your folder by clipping it outside your pocket? Furthermore, would you do that with an auto in a non-auto state? I was standing in a cashier line at the local Odd Job store when I saw this guy in line in front of me doing just what I described above. Sure seems like an easy way to lose a folder and/or get the police interested in you. Oh well.

I can answer a solid No to your question. Maybe the fellow was worried about concealed carry?

That's something which deserves a slap on the head unless he was beyond the reaches of law enforcement (damn, it's the x-files in me coming out, lol). I'm cautious enough not to attract attention with knives that are legal in my region. Better to keep knives "out of the spotlight" until they are required for a task.

KBR: that must be the best answer to that question ;) lol
Maybe I should do that, because the stupid laws here says that no concealed carry. heh heh

Absolutely not. I do know a guy, friend of a friend who carrries A Spyderco Endura clipped to the outside. I think he is just not understanding the concept. I meet people who think SAK is illegal and I meetr people who have no clue that Auto knives are a no no. Sometimes it just irritates me.

Trying not to get irritated just thinking about stupid people,

Outside the pocket carry seems to me like a loss waiting to happen...Either by clip-failure, or by the "long arm of the law" (if the knife IS illegal).

Or maybe he just wanted to show-off his nice knife to everyone...:D.

Arrrrrrgh :(.., well that's just ridiculous! That form of carry you can simply lose the knife when you sit down.., let alone the exposure to public view...

One of the guys at work tried that. Bent the clip out the first day. Bad idea.

This post reminds me of Michele Rodriguez in Fast and the Furious. She has a green handled Endura clipped to the outside of her pants.

Heck, even with the clip on the outside I catch the darned things on car doors and equipment as i brush past them. With the knife on the outside it would seem only a matter of time before its dropped and lost.

I'll bet ya he only loses it once.
I've clipped mine on the inside of my waist band, that way it doesn't even show,(but never an auto), I don't even want people to know I have one. Hell I even open my autos so it looks like I'm opening a one hander, so as not to draw attention to myself.
