Not to compare fallkniven and cold steel but fallkniven are recently offering F1, S1 and A1 with steel guards and I though it would be nice if cold steel can start offering this on their SRK models.

Yes that would be great as i'm not a big fan of non-metal guards.
Would love to see CS do a Trailmaster equivalent of the Fallkniven Tor, metal guard and buttcap with leather ring handle. The Fallkniven Tor is awesome but the price is well beyond a lot of peoples budgets.

You should take a look at the "Big Bowies, Trail Master, Thor" page on

I'm not sure how necessary that would be, and how much benefit the end user would receive for the added cost and weight involved.

Perhaps polypropylene? It's plenty strong, it's lightweight, and it's more affordable than steel.

The Recon Scout is still a thing, and it's FFG. :)

Nope.

There's no point in it having a metal guard. The guard is there to keep your hand from slipping up onto the blade and, given the handle material, is largely unnecessary.

From a functional standpoint, I think the guard is fine as-is. My hands don’t slip on those grips, though I must admit I don’t usually stab much with them.

Not needed. The design has been fine like it is for what the intended use is, so why add to the cost. When I was doing Gun & Knife shows a lot, I heard at least a dozen or more stories about how either an SRK or Recon Tanto had saved someone's life in an interpersonal confrontation in one or the other "sandboxes", so again .. no need.

That's a great idea. But I think the SRK has a thick enough guard that it doesn't bend or flex like those rubber guards on the OSS and Marauder. For those knives I wish Cold Steel would design the handles like they do on the Tanto Lite and Outdoorsman Lite. Polypropylene guard, sub hilt and core section. Then over-molded with deeply checkered kraton!

It wouldn't be an SRK then, right? Might as well add a skull crusher to it too. Guess you could call it the SRK +, not sure if it would make sense economically speaking.

Did the SRK in 3V come out? I dont think so but just checking. Is on the CS website but looks like most sellers have not stock.

One of my friends will do a mod on sk5 SRK for me in future .
and the mods will have a brass guard on it.

They're fine as is. Probably wouldn't be worth the weight it would add.

It would be nice if the sheaths didn't chew up the guard like they do on the srk and master hunter. That's why I use either the older cordura sheaths or custom kydex for them.
