Would you rather have 12 Benchmades or... 2K worth of Mid Techs?

Over the last couple years I have purchased about 15-18 Benchmades. Some I EDC, and a dozen are BNIB.

My intent all along was to buy the folders (Benchmade being a decent company in my eyes), so as my EDC knives wear out I can just pull one or two out from the dozen in storage, and start EDCing them.

As for now I want to buy some High End fixed blades.

My question is would you guys keep the dozen Benchmades about 2k worth, or would you sell them and pick up a few higher end Mid Tech knives. The only reason I didn't do that was because I don't care for the liner/Frame locks. I really like the Axis lock.

But it's a question thats been bugging me the last few days, so I thought I would ask.

Why do either? Buy knives that you like. If you don't like them, sell them, and use the money for something else.
If you really like your Benchmades, then keep them. If you only like some of htem, sell the ones you don't like and use the money to buy a midtech or two. If you don't like any of them, sell them all.
I'm not sure I really understand the question.

12 benchmades should last about 4 lifetimes.... So sell half of hem and buy what your liking for. But +1 to Dan.

I'd keep the 5 or 6 you carry and sell the rest. Check out a Sebenza or Umnun. Maybe a Les George
Vecp. There are a bunch more really cool knives in the $500 or so range. After a while to me knives just sitting in the safe wasn't very satisfying.

Sell the ones you don't like. Seems like a no-brainer to me. I'm pretty happy having sold off most of the folders I don't like. I need to pare down my collection a bit more though.

I'd want the largest variety possible. A couple of Benchmade or similar EDC knives, a couple fixed blade survival knives, a couple custom hunters, a couple SAKs, a couple traditional pocketknives...

You get the idea.

But no way I'd sell any of my Accumulation to buy something new. How could a person ever build a decent-sized collection doing that?

But that's me, and you're you.

You have something you no longer care for, won't miss it when it's gone, and selling it would allow you to buy something you do like or to try something new? Well, why not?

I guess I did a crappy job explaining my question. I like all my Benchmades. And I think I will keep the Benchmades. And start building a fixed blade collection.

Quality over quantity. Zero benchmades for me please.

^Yup. But I DO have one BM (of many) left: A Mini Grip 555HG. The only reason I still have it is its a little dinged up and I've replaced the Omega springs (Both broke!) with the core of a thicker wound guitar string (which works perfectly) and I'd rather give it away to a friend in need than sell it for next to nothing on the exchange. Personally I'd have to be broke, on crack or both to consider carrying something other than a Midtech. It gives me (possibly unhealthy) peace of mind feeling that my knife was designed and made to be more or less ideal and not designed and made to be more or less ideally priced.

Absolutely sell off the ones you arent using(or dont have an attachment to) and free up some capital to buy what you REALLY want. Nothing wrong with catch and release collecting, especially if you have unused money sitting in a box!

Natural progression to go from high-priced production to mid-techs.
