Would you sharpen the back edge of a CS Leatherneck SF?

G'day all.

For my new knife, I'd like the Cold Steel Leatherneck SF.

The only problem for me is that it lacks a sharp back edge (which my Ontario FF1 does have).

So how crazy would it be to sharpen up 1/3rd of the Leatherneck back edge to a useful slicing profile? Anyone tried it?
From factory it's not a 'false edge' (like the Ka-bar USMC), it's actually a lot more chunky. Does the blade geometry lend itself to sharpening this edge or am I going to remove too much material and weaken the tip a lot?

Also, the knife comes in two formats..Sabre grind in D2 steel, or the flat grind in SK-5. The D2 model is slightly thicker (4.5mm vs 4mm I think) so I'm leaning toward that... Sound OK?
I'll use the knife for hunting (stabbing/slicing/chopping large pigs) and general survival/camp utility stuff like opening tins of beans, making holes in things & hammering on stuff (not really much batoning though).

Cheers for your advice on whether or not to risk ruining a new blade :)

PS I'm loving the advice on this forum and have read HEAPs but this is my first post.
