Made this knife for my sister in law's wedding. Posted in Makers forum to get advice and received little comment so I thought I would post it here and see what the users have to say. Would you use this (I called it the beautiful buckskinner), what would you change, what do you like/dislike. Thanks for all comments!

I've got a couple more pics of the sheath as well but photobucket just stopped cooperating, I'll try again after physio!

I think it is a nice piece of work but since you asked,I think that the handle and blade design would flow a little better if it was a slab handle design. That way the handle could just flow right into the blade without the transition.

That is just my opinion though and should in no way lessen your pride in a well made knife.

I think that's a real winner, I'd have used it! I planned on doing something similar for my wedding but ran out of time. Mother-in-law wasted no time pointing out the failure...

I think it's great! I like how you did the handle and the hidden tang construction. You did very well on it and you should be proud... If you want constructive criticism, I think the knife could use a little better "flow". That's about it. It's still very nice the way it is though.

As far as how much to charge, that's really up to you to decide. Maybe ask yourself how much you would pay for a knife like this and go by that.

It is hard for me to tell from the picture, but does it get thinner from the spine where you did the file work to just before the edge? I love the wood and spacer material look to the handle.

I like the shape of it. How thick is the knife??

It is 3/32" CPM154

Actually the backup knife that I made (in case I screwed up royally) was a full tang. I did the hidden tang so the 60 degree angle would hold true throughout, as I did not know if I would keep the slabs the same orientation on the full tang. I do agree about the flow being smoother with the full tang.

OUCH! Still a mother in law???

Actually I asked for what you would change not charge, but that is what I did to put it on customs forms when I took it to them in New Jersey!

There is no distal taper to it- I am not anywhere near that good;) This is my only my 8th knife, and as I did most of the work by hand and had to go through surgery in the middle of making this I did it just as a Scandi grind, but it did cut very well- I attribute this mostly to the thinness of the steel.

Thanks for the replies so far everybody. The spacers and handle in general turned out much better than I expected due to my lack of experience, and the finish was much better than anything that I have done up to this point.

Do any of you have ideas on how you would have improved the flow? I may have reduced the amount of handle above the spine- any other suggestions?

P.S. Here is how I made it: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=667876

I personaly think 3/32 of an inch is too thin

Could you comment further on why you think 3/32" is too thin. Personally it is my favorite all around thickness and I have found it to be thick enough for my woods purposes (My main EDC folder is a BUSSTR @ 1/16" and it works great).

This (to me) was further proven to me when trying out Koyote's passaround, and by using machetes that are as thick or thinner than this knife. I feel that the extra width of the knife make up for the thinness where strength is concerned.

I do not pry with my blades, so that may be a concern of yours, I just want to understand further why you feel it is too thin, and thank you for your response.
