Trade your entire collection for one knife of the value that you put on your collection? For instance your collection for a Moran? Lorchner? Strider?

I was going through my top 50 knives I own list as it has been a few years and the question came to me. My top 50 are so diverse that there is no way that I would ever be happy with just one- even if it was immaculate, if it would appreciate greatly over 10 years (if the appreciation was much faster I would just to sell it later and get more knives), and was the knife that all covet.

My collection is based on diversity, as I have to think of a reason that the knife adds something to my collection that I do not have before I consider a purchase, and I love that I have no discernible focus to it.

Just food for thought.

me neither

i recently made a huge purchase, most i spent on a knife ever 450 dollars, and even though i like it, i keep thinking to myself that i would have been happier buying three 150 dollar knives..

i mean, in the 130-160 dollar range, you can exceptionally good knives (99.9 percentile).. BM rift, BM 710, Al mar sere 2000, millie, zt 0200, etc

at the 500 dollar range you get a better knife, but not 4 times better

I've severely downsized my collection over the last 2 years to the point where I am getting pretty happy with the few I have left. I've worked out all the kinks and know what makes me happy in regards to knives.

I'm good - no trade.

Maybe for "The Spear of Destiny". But that would probably be more trouble than it is worth.

It's impossible for me to do that, I have knives I can't get rid of, not because of dollar value, but because they are well made and gifted/traded from friends and family.

Yes, I would trade all my factory knives for a single custom knife of the same value (assuming I liked the knife enough to justify the price). However, many knives in my collection are already unique customs and I wouldn't trade them. Well, maybe I would trade some of those, too...

I'd say no. There is no one knife that is worth what I have spent on my collection. There may be a lot of over priced stuff out there, but nothing actually worth what I put into my collection. Which I have paired down substantially in the past year.

While its not trading my entire collection for just one knife, I'm actually in the process of getting rid of the large majority of my collection with the plan of purchasing 3 knives. The 3 knives I had in mind are an Umnumzaan, XM-18, and a DDR Gun Hammer.

I decided to do this cause I noticed that when it came time to pick out a knife to carry for the day, it was hard not to want to grab either my Galyean Pro Series JYD or small UG Sebenza. So if my entire collection amounted to a decision between two knives, I'd rather trade it all to have a few more knives on par with the Pro JYD and Sebenza to choose from.

Nope, I like the diversity of my small collection and deciding what to carry based on need and whim. I would also be concerned about trading everything for one blade....and then losing it.

Nope, I like diversity and I like my knives. Some of my knives have alot memories with me. They cannot be measured in dollar their value.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooo.:(

I won't even part with my cheap knives. Never mind the Sebenza.

Not now, but I have done something of the sort in the past.

Now my collection is worth more then 2k, I don't need a single knife worth as much. But most of my collection is the result of trading. Granted my entire collection is about 10 knives. Out of those most aren't part of a "collection" only two or three are (and by that I mean I'm not planing to beat the crap out of those knives) The rest are users/would be users. I have landed few of my grails. The only thing I might consider trading for now is a 1911 or a good wheel gun. I also have one or two knives I want to trade. Other then that I'm set.

No way. Its kind of like a collector of guns told me once. Once you step up your game to those more elite class expensive ones you limit the market as well as the liklihood of ever selling it for what you need to get out of it and in many cases limit getting rid of it at even a discount without some wait time while you hope someone with the money and desire wants it.

The lesser valued items in contrast can many times move not only fast even if at a discount but if one is smart he can pick and chose limited or slightly rarer ones that may add some additional desire factor to the equation and make them profitable as well. Profit for this hobby is not really something I've had a lot of experience with but usually you can get into something for a little and sell it at pretty close and take the little bit of a loss as just the cost of leasing it for a while. :D Thats how I look at it anyways. Kind of pay to play for a time and then move it habit of buying. In many ways the knives I buy can be almost akin to 'as good as cash' many times and although I may not get exactly what I paid for it if I need some $ fast most of them can move pretty well for me to turn up some quick cash that keeps me from dipping in to my savings.

I have different knives for different purposes. While my collection is not big, I have uses for all I own. There is no "one single" knife that can do everything I demand of my knives.

Don't think I've found one knife that I actually like that's worth what my four Striders are, let alone the rest of my collection. Think I'll stick with what I've got...
