Wow.....44ot

Interesting bid history on that one.

I saw another rare one last week. It was a 36OT, but it was a little rusty. It went for $50.00.

Prices are going crazy, if these recent similar forum topics are an indication.

My Old Timer collecting days may be over... No way I'm paying $150 for a factory-made knife with plastic handles. It was the low prices and "common-ness" that attracted me to collecting Old Timers.

Maybe I'll move on to filling in the holes in my Tradesman collection. :D

...ah the old last 10 second sniper high clearing bid..the buyer does it every time never shows his hand till its too late...and prices go rediculous because of it....perfect example of what I have been discussing...it does not offer a true indication of the knifes worth because the high clearing bid has no idea what the undeclared bid is going to produce...you win it but at what cost to yourself and everyone else...still that fleeting moment of power and adrenalin rush.....you cant beat it...literally. Hoo Roo

Did you guys notice the guy who won this knives feedback history was only at 22. think thats got anything to do with it? maybe too much cash and not enough research? just a thought.

I don't think the 'blame' for high prices can be placed on any one person. In order for the guy to win it for $150, that means that someone else must have bid $150 also. And you can see in the bid history that six people, nearly everyone who bid, placed bids $50 or higher.

A year and half ago that knife would have sold for $35 NIB.

Both snipers bid $150. The winner beat the second place bidder by 6 seconds. Both relative newbies at less than 35 buys each. I guess you gotta "shoot" first.
Anyone ever see three or more identical bids?

....I must be talkin Swahli....the higest bidder can be sitting on say $135.00 were he has beaten the previous bidder HOWEVER he may have an undisclosed high of say $149. The 5 second wonder comes in with the high clearing bid it may be $3000 and he will get it for the next increment above the undisclosed bidders high which can make it say $150..the point is the sniper with the high clearing bid has no idea what the price is going to rest at all he knows is he has won it...which is why my Kpala Traps make him pay substantially more than he bargained..it has little to do with his idea of value of the knife it is all about winning at any cost.
As an aside have members noticed Ebay has changed bidding history details for closed auctions? They dont disclose bidders handels anymore but you can glean a lot more about the individual bidders activities. I reckon its great. Hoo Roo

If either of those bidders bid even $.01 over $150 it would have shown up in the winning bid Larry. $150 was the highest amount, "clearing" or not that was bid on that knife. It would be cool to see 2 bids of $3000 though! Why don't you bid $2999 some time and see what happens???? That would really get someone's goat!:D
Harambee!;)
(Swahili for Hoo Roo!)

If I was to assign a culprit to the high bid. I'd go for the guy who chiseled away at anyones bid until he beat it by a buck and then quit... in hopes that everyone else would leave it alone for the next three days. Those kind of bidders should be up for the Darwin Award.

I'm under the impression he was boosting his bid by a dollar at a time to catch up to earlier higher bids.

I remmember I won a Buck 120 General knife for 10 cents over previous bidder and with only one second remaining. Didnt mean to leave it that long just happended that way. I then noticed a Buy it now one cheaper and told the guy who lost to me.
Still liked that knife, called it my 10 cent 1 second knife even though i paid more than the buy it now price.

Don't you have to make popping noises when you talk Swahili? :) Poor Orvet came so close until those final moments, and he's probably the one who really needs it for an actual collection filler. Lately I find that if I'm not there bidding at the moment the auction ends, I don't stand a chance of winning. I placed a high bid on a nice custom trapper yesterday a half hour before the auction ended, went to work, and of course lost by a couple of bucks.

Speaking only for myself,a guys feedback rating has little if anything to do with anything. If a person is comfortable with what he paid for a particular item, then happy days for him. I personally have a very low feedback score in comparison to others, but I do not buy to resell, bragg what I paid (or how little), or to invest for money's sake. I buy what appeals to me for me to enjoy, and what I paid for it is nobodies buisness but my own. To me it was worth every penny I paid. Someday my Grandson (I hope) will look on granpa's old Schrade knife collection with the same reverance at American Craftsmanship from long ago that I do. You can't put a pricetag on that! At least I can't. Matthew

LOL, the dollar at a time method cracks me up! I guess some people just like to see their name on the screen; lots of times!!
If you are going to quit at $67, why not bid $67 and be done with it?

As a buyer you get positive eBay feedback for paying promptly. As a seller you get positive feedback for accurately representing the item and prompt shipping. You really want to do business with someone that doesn't have a good score? My eBay feedback score is 100%, and I hope as a result that other eBay users have no hesitation when it comes to doing business with me.

Maybe I misunderstood your post?

Besides, both the buyer and seller in the auction being discussed have perfect 100% scores.

what I paid for it is nobodies buisness but my own.
Uh, eBay is a public auction website. Everyone on the planet knows what you bid. Of course very few people, if any, know the true identity of "pwrstrk1." I don't have the same user name on eBay as I do here, but anyone could find out with ten minutes of investigation. Doesn't matter to me, neither are my real name, and it still wouldn't matter.

Hello Bob,you did missunderstand my post. And it is my fault. I wasn't talking about the % rating,Mine is 100% also. I was talking about how many different people you have bought from. Like mine is only 60 something. I was refering to how long you have been buying on ebay. I shouldn't have said feedback rating. I don't remember what the other number is called. Forgive me,It's been a long day. Also I wasn't speaking of any particular auction, just a general opinion of like circumstances. As for KNOWING what anyone pays for something,I knew that was public knowledge also. I just "don't care" what anyone else thinks about what I paid for it. "It's none of thier buisness" why I did it. That was my point. Sorry you missunderstood me. I'll try to explain myself better next time. Matthew

My count isn't that high either. I've been on eBay for a couple of years, but I'm not a regular buyer and I've never sold anything.

Best Wishes,
-Bob

Feedback doesnt always meen much at all, may simply mean you dont feel you can be honest leaving good feedback for someone who you have purchased from becuase item is not exactly as described.
Guess what will happen if you leave bad feedback because of this??? They will more than likely return bad feedback to you just because you dared to be honest?? Dont worry Ive had it happen to me.
Much more than half of the knives I have purchased off ebay (probably about 70) have not been mint as seller said in listing, if I left bad feedback for all of them then they would return same and my feedback rating would be terrible.

..I have nearly 800 positives, and 2 negatives with 99.6% rating and it doesnt matter what I do I cant get 100% why? I had the temerity to warn other Ebayers about 2 sellers I paid immediately 12 months ago by money oreder and I'm still waiting. They got the money and one went on to resell the item for double. They immediately gave me negative retaliatory feedback, one said I wasnt patient cos her son had been in an accident and visiting him for 2 months the other gave me a false tracking number. Ebay will not remove and couldnt care less as they are only facilitators to the transaction..sound familiar? I'm not bitter and twisted ...my advice is knock firmly but softly as I believe the world needs soft firm knockers.....Hoo Roo
