Hey Guys,
So excited I almost can't stand it! Was going thru the bottom of the box from the late BIL's estate and struck gold [kinda, anyways]. Take a look:

Wish to hell I could keep 'em, since they are in such fantastic shape, but thought I'd share the temporary joy anyways!

Those are both sweet looking knives Steve, I espectially like the 186:thumbup: If you cant keep em, you can send em to me. Id be glad to keep em.:D

Yeah, wish I could, but these will be headed for the exchange or ebay shortly. Economic conditions and no job will do that to ya. Now I know how Gollum felt about the ring ["My Precious, my Precious]!

Very nice.

It's fun to find such things unexpectedly, especially in such good condition.

That 119 is an '81 Model, I think, can't see the pommel very well.......called a Group 3 knife. If it's just got the one Micarta on the pommel, it's '81 to '86 (Group 4).

one knife to rule them all, on knife to find them, on knife to bring them all and in the darkness bind them. In the land of ebay where the good knives lie.:D

And which, pray tell, is "The One" (slight apologies to Jet Li) :D

You did strike gold, if not for you. The blade shape on the 119 is different from the new ones, more up swept.

Vang, thanks for posting photos of your treasures . The 119 is 1981 the sheath looked correct as well . Hope you find a job soon . Edb, I've noticed 3 liners up swept like this one as well . DM

So you can see double Micarta on the pommel, Dave?

If not, it's '81 to '86.

Sharp eyes, or intuition?

;)

Okay, Guys - What's the scoop? I am extremely particular whenever I post a knife, or anything else, for sale. From the date stamp coding, I got 1973 - 1981. David says 1981, and I'm OK with that. BG2EDGE, what makes you think that the knife is newer than 1981?

Thanks

Steve

The pommel spacers. I couldn't see yours. Take a look at this and you can figure it. It's a little more complex than just the stamp.

Group 1 1972- Blade stamped BUCK, XXX, U.S.A. Stamp is upside down or inverted, read with the point down, Guard has two micarta spacers and two aluminum spacers. Pommel has two micarta spacers and one aluminum spacer. A holster style, or Flap over sheath was used and the knife came in a two piece yellow bow.

Group 2 1973-1980 Blade stamped BUCK, XXX, U.S.A. Stamp is right side up, read with the point up, as it is on today's knives. Guard has two micarta and two aluminum spacers. Pommel has two micarta spacers and one aluminum spacer. Holster style, or Flap over sheath still used and the knife originally came in a two piece yellow bow but the switch to a one piece yellow box probably started around 1978.

Group 3 1981 Blade stamped BUCK, XXX, U.S.A. and is oriented the same as the previous group. Guard has one micarta and two aluminum spacers. Pommel has two micarta spacers and one aluminum spacer. I should note that I have only seen the 119, 120, a couple 121s, and one 118 in this configuration and it is likely that the other models skipped this and went straight to the next version. Holster style sheath still possible but also wrap around the handle type is introduced. The belt loop on the 120 swivels. Same one piece yellow box as previous.

Group 4 1981-1986 Blade stamp is still the same as the previous group. Guard has one micarta spacer and two aluminum spacers. Pommel has one micarta and one aluminum spacer. Holster style sheath is still in use on some models. Just about every type of sheath is found in this group. Still the same one piece yellow box as previous.

Now you have a little more to work with.

:)

OK, BG, I get the picture [sigh]. Wouldn't it be like kinda helpful to add the spacer info to the sticky on date coding? Or if it's there and I missed it, I can plead a senior moment. Does that work? :D

Vang, "Senior Moment" sounds like the story of my life. :)

To have good info on knives you have to seek it out and copy and paste into your own computer so you have it handy.

You also have to keep on top of new stuff because changes are often made to the existing information.

It takes a little work.

You'll do ok, sounds like you're motivated to list things correctly.

Have fun with your knives. Selling can be fun, too.

:)
