Just got my BK&T Campanion, SOG Power Lock and Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpener. Wow.
First, the most anitcipated was the Campanion. When people talk about massive knives, this is it. It is broader than it looks on the internet. Rock solid, with a very comfortable handle and a very well-designed sheath. The edge was nice, especially for a big knife. Most of all, it has inspired in me a confidence that I can use it very hard without hurting it. I think I could cut my way out of a Bradley APC with it.
Next, the SOG Power Lock, which I had handled before and knew I needed, were equally as impressive. After checking out everything from Gerber, Leatherman, etc., I am sure that this is the best multi-tool I have ever seen. It is smooth to open, cuts pennies like nothing, has a well designed and very sturdy set of locks, and the human engineering smarts that make it really comfy to use.
Finally, in what was purchased as an afterthought, the Spydie sharpening system is truly incredible. Well thought out, well designed and, most importantly, effective as hell. I had not proprerly sharpened my Native for well over six months of everday use, and one day of landscaping that included cutting something like 60 burlap sacks. 160 strokes later, it was really sharp. Another great product form a company who I now rely solely upon for folders.
The point of this is: wow. My roommates said I was nuts for spending 175 bucks on this stuff, but I feel like I got a great deal. The Campanion, which I bought mainly because JC Wilson, a Canadian Artillery officer here on the forums, recommended it as a tried and true piece of equipment. The SOG seems like it will last forever, and the shaprpener will make all the knives i already have worth keeping.
I don't really have a point, I guess, except to say that I am infitnely pleased with wht I got for my money, and that I would highly encourage anyone else to get the same. Also I really want to give a plug to the great people at Bayou Lafourche knifeworks, www.knifeworks.com. They have great prices and very good customer service. I will be doing a lot of business with them in the future.
