So I’ve been interested in getting an Edge Pro Apex model for a while now, and decided to send in my CPM D2 Millie for their complimentary sharpening service to see if its worth it. Well, between talking to Ben (pretty sure he’s the owner) and then receiving my knife back today, I’ve decided to take the plunge and get the apex 4. The results are simply fantastic!

Mirror polished! The red is the reflection of the Casio point-shoot camera I used ;)

When I sent it in, it had a very toothy, aggressive edge that could pop a few hairs, but not close to CPM D2’s full potential. Now, it shaves like a Mach 3, and I was able to split a hair as well, which was a first for me. My Military is far and away my sharpest folder now, and I couldn’t be more pleased. Ben said it took about 15 minutes to do this.

If you’re at all interested in the Edge Pro, I highly recommend the complimentary sharpening. I sent the Millie in w/ $5 for return shipping last Monday, and it arrived today, for a one-week turnaround. This was much faster, and more importantly, sharper, than the factory sharpening service. If you have a favorite folder, and your sharpening is not this good (mine certainly isn’t) you should definitely call Edgepro/Ben about the service. The # is 541-387-2222.

Anyway, I’m off to go test this thing some more!

Ben's a great guy that makes great sharpeners. You'll be very happy with the Apex. I've got one and a Pro also. Enjoy!

You will never regret the purchase of your EdgePro. Ben is a great guy to deal with (yes, he's the owner and inventor), and you will be able to get edges like this on your knives also. Enjoy!

I think of the fixed sharpening systems, it it lookes like the best system. I have used a lansky literally for decades. Same idea, fixed angle different grits. However the lansky system is a pain to use. you have to clamp the knife down. The sharpening stones are kind of little.

I sharpen my knives with a convex grind now, and mostly strop to maintain the edge, but I wish I had an apex for my kitchen knives.

I would like to get a good sharpening system, but I had such a tough time trying to set up my Lansky that I never tried it again. I could see what the logic behind the system was, but I just don't have the experience or the slightest idea of how to use it. Most of my knives are AUS8 or 440C, and I keep them sharp with the Sharpmaker, but the Lansky made me feel like I was all thumbs. I didn't know where to secure the blade, which stone to use, how to position it. You almost need a comprehensive video showing how to use the things. I do envy those of you who know how to put good edges on a blade.

Well speak of the devil...I was looking at cutlerylover's review of the Edge Pro Apex on YouTube and I decided to look up the website for the sharpener and I saw that they were offering free sharpening demos provided you sent the knife to them...well I called them up to ask specifics about what knife angle they sharpen at, etc. (btw, he'll take specific requests for desired angles but for the most part he sharpens the knife at what he feels is the best angle depending upon the knife itself.)

I've got mine boxed up and ready to go out tomorrow!!! (I'm sending the CRKT M21-14SF.)

For those of you that are interested, you can look up the address on their website.

Nice edge on the millie...

According to Ben, you need the polish tapes to take it up to that level of mirror polish, so that's why I'm going for the 4.

Are you going to leave the chisel grind on or have him put on a double grind for you?

I would love nothing more than to have a new double edge on my CRKT. I'm not going to bug him about putting one on. With the demo being free, I'm just excited they're doing it at all...so whatever they want to do is fine with me--I know they probably get busy. I'll probably drop a note telling them as much.

I cant wait!!!

When I get mine back, I'll post a pic showing the end result. (I'll probably start a new thread asking others to show their beautiful edges like homeboy's millie.)

I'm just lost here... They will sharpen any knife you send in as long as you send return postage with it?

Just got off the phone with Melody(sp?) and apparently yes... This is awesome.
Thanks for the heads up.

Yeah, it's a bit convoluted and I'm sure I just complicated things myself. I just got back from the post office and paid $8.00 for postage, return shipping, and insurance (up to $100) for my CRKT.

I ended up putting the return envelope (with an insurance label on it) and the knife inside the sending envelope (that also had an insurance label on it). I know I should have called to see if all of that was really necessary but at least Edge Pro has everything they need now in literally "one convenient package," lol.

I just got my knife back. I sent in a WWII AK-47 bayonet that was so dull I was able to grab the blade and NOT get cut no matter how hard I squeezed. What I got back is simply INCREDIBLE! Ben also wrote me a hand written note that was really awesome. He said it took 25 minutes to get the edge on there and he had never been able to work with a knife like this before. I only have a crappy little picture from my camera phone right now... I'll try to take a better one later.
