This stuff is AMAZING! Got a Cobra Carbide brand 3/16" fluted and it cuts like butter.

They're worth it. Run em fast and steady, and don't be cheap with the oil/coolant. Just don't put any torque or sideways pressure on them, they break very easily.

I paid $17 at my B&M.

And with a tad bit of care, you will remove a lot more metal than $17 worth of HSS would do.
And faster too.

I need to buy better clamps cuz the chatter didn't sound good.

OK, gonna lay off on that til I get another vice grip.

Ahh, for some reason I was thinking this was an endmill.

Carbide drills have their place, and I have plenty, but for most drill press applications cobalt excels.

You want zero chatter, flex, or movement, AND good technique, or you will be kissing your $17 goodbye.

CM,
Check out this drill press clamp from Delta. I use either this or my super duper Kant-Twist brand clamp. The Kant-Twist is quite a bit pricier though. This Delta model does a really nice job of holding things in place on the drill press.

I use those too.

Grizzly has them too at half the price.

I think it's odd that I can't find vise grip versions of them because it's essentially a modified vise grip.

Thanks Count! I have been looking for those ever since I saw one of Jonny's WIP's

+1 on what Brian said. Most holes in my shop are drilled with screw-machine length cobalt drills. Carbide has its uses - like if you forget to drill a hole before hardening - but absolutely requires rigid clamping.

I always wondered the same thing........to look at it you would swear it was made by Vise Grip. Go figure...

Ryan, you could've asked:p

2 of those is exactly what I need! Fortunately my FIL is a HF junky. That's where he got my drill press from.
