uh oh, this looks like a board I could end up spending alot of time on. I dropped in on a reccomendation and have been reading all I can since, Looks like you ppl know your stuff and ill have plenty to keep learning about. Im from the Ar15.com board anyway.
Now Ill give you some more info to laugh at me about...
right now Im carring a Buck lightning series folder, it does a good job as far as im concerned, but I know theres alot better to be had, any suggestions as far a which factory made is best- overall, minus all the diff options and cofigs?
Also this is a real long shot, but a couple months ago in one of the gun magazines there was an article about a custom maker, but for the life of me I cannot find the article or remember the name, it featured custom made art type folders with different colored metals in the handle and grip?
I know I sound like a complete rambler but was hoping someone might have seen or know about this maker or what im talking about. cause they were beautifull- just what I need aunthor hobby to spend money on- Aint it great!!!

thanks guys hope to learn alot

Welcome to Bladeforums my neighbor to the north!! You can not go wrong with Buck, they make a great knife. Others I would suggest are any Spyderco, the Delica and Endura are great daily carry knives. Kershaw makes the Whirlwind and Blackout knives that have an opening assisted mechanism designed by custom knifemaker Ken Onion that is very impressive. These can be purchased for less than $50.00.

IAJack,

This is the place, Glad you found it.

First, I'm not much into art knives so I have no idea who's work you are talking about. I'm sure there will be a number of suggestions coming soon from other members.

Production Folders: "Tactical" in nature. My short list (in no particular order) would be;

Spyderco
Wegner Full size plain edge
Military
Starmate

Benchmade
AFCK
McHenry & Williams Axis (710)

There has been lots of discussion here on this and similar topics. The search function could be a big help, also follow links to specific dealers & manufacturers sites.

Good luck, and happy hunting!

Mike

Welcome, be prepared to give up the less important parts of your life to devote more time to Bladeforums.

I'd start out with Spyderco or Benchmade. Can't go wrong there. Then check out the (especially newer) offerings from Kershaw and CRKT. REKAT's a good choice too, depending on what your needs are. Seems like the choices are growing daily.

Pick out a couple you like then post again. We'll start talking customs.

Welcome aboard, Jack. I believe you saw the decorated Sebenzas made by Chris Reeve. They were featured in one of the gun rags a few months back. Here are a few:

Also, Chris also has his own forum here at Blade forums. Check it out in the Makers and Manufacturers section.

Hi guys,
The Chris Reeve article is in American Handgunner, Sept/Oct 1999. Quite a long article (6 pages!) for a knife in a gun rag.

They sure look like art!

Welcome to the forums, I would have to second the suggestions above for Spyderco(Wegner-full size or Jr). I'm sure soon you will be going through withdrawl if you can't get online at least once a day. By the way what part of Iowa are you from(my hometown is Shenandoah and went to college in Iowa City).
