Wow! Have you seen this?-Quantum Stealth camoflage is similar to an Invisible cloak

Reading further the owner says he has already developed a counter measure incase someone tried to use similar technology on him/his clients. So it has a weakness:(

Little surprised it has been on the news as much as it has, and why it wasnt kept top secret???

There was some talk (Popular Science if I recall) a few years ago about using fiber optics to camo stealth planes. I guess they've progressed even more.

A company in japan been making one for the last 10 years theres a documentary on it somewhere on the history or military channel. but they were walking around in a big city showing it off so this is hardly a breakthrough, and therefor no reason to keep it "TOPSECRET"

I remember hearing about this i think in the pop sci article on fiber optics about the potential for gear and uniforms, too.

Everyone should own one for those times you just wish you could disappear. :)

Yes, I have been following the research of this. Unfortunately, those are mockup photos. It will be really cool once it's a reality.

How sweet would invisible gun and knives be? I am sure Jerry has already been looking into it for years.

This has been around for a few years, 5+ at least. It works okay as long as you don't move. If you see it in video it's not as impressive as still images. I wouldn't put it past our special ops snipers to have something similar. It's cool, but there are a lot of instruments that don't rely on human sight, infra-red and puppies are two that come to mind. I didn't check out the FLIR trailer last time they were around, but those guys do amazing stuff and I'm sure their technology isn't moving backwards.

Didn't i see this on Harry Potter?

That said, the "Top Secret" value of a technology like this is not how it works, it's that it exists.

By knowing of it's existence, it can be countered. I mean, $7K buys you decent IR. Countries can spend lots more.

Oh, but if it is real, it is cool.

didn't want anyone to think that, just because i'm a skeptic, i don't know cool when i see it ;)

Sign me up. This stuff and a lightsaber and my life would be complete.

Garth

Then you'd jut be a floating lightsaber, that would just be silly.

It is real, but those pictures are doctored and look a lot better than what it actually looks like, it's not even Predator good. I remember reading about it a few years ago, it works on the same principle as fiber optics. I was just thinking a useful application would be stationary secret service guards, if you could scan around the president with an IR camera, I wonder if you'd see any ninja people...
