My god, I fear I am a liar. :o

First I had claimed that my next knife was to be a Fallkniven U2... That lasted about a day, untill I was struck by a need to get a Victorinox Farmer. That lasted a week or two, and then I realized I love my Soldier so much, why not just carry a folding saw when going into the bush. Then I fell for a BRK&T Mikro-Canadian...which I still plan to get! But alas, it was not the next knife. Today I bought a Spyderco! :D

I'm not sure how it happened. I went to the new Galyan's in Freehold, New Jersey today and of course immediatly went to the hunting/camping section. After a while looking at the nice stuff, I headed for the knives. Immediatly my eye was caught by an S.S. Delica! It was just...GOOD LOOKING! I couldn't believe I actually felt that way about a Spyderco!! Now don't get my wrong. I love Spyderco. They are my favorite tac-company, but I'm more of a traditional guy myself. When I think good looking knife I think ALOX SAK, Dozier, BRK&T, Queen... you get the picture. The point is I had to take a look at this puppy.

After handling her for a moment I decided this was to be my next knife. The opening was smooth, fit and finish excellent, and it looked like a workhorse. I was sold. She now resides in my waistband to back up my Victorinox Soldier.

Now, the greatest part about this whole story is: My knife collection was confiscated almost a year ago. I had alot of great stuff, and since that time I have been rebuilding that collection. At the time of it's confiscation though my EDC was a Spyderco FRN VG-10 Delica, and a Victorinox Soldier. I considered it the perfect EDC... I figured I would not be able to remake that EDC untill I went to college and ordered those knives again online. However, not too long ago I found a Soldier on sale at target for $13.77, and today I boght a Delica. And so I come full circle...

How come? Can someone seize a knife collection?
OTOH, congratulations on your new fine knife. The Delica is my very favorite and EDC (well, not SS but FRN, due to its lightweight, grippy feel and better blade steel). ;)

Sounded to me like his collection consisted of a Delica and a SAK, and it was taken by a cop. But I'll let Kevin clarify.

Former Collection:
Spyderco Native S30V FRN PE
Spyderco Lum Chinese VG-10 PE
Spyderco Delica VG-10FRN PE
Spyderco Endura (Dad still has this one)
Spyderco Ladybug (Dad still has this one)
Victorinox Soldier
Victorinox Classic w/ Shamrock design
Victorinox Camper (Dads old one)
Leatherman Micra (My best friend has that one)
Leatherman Juice
Kershaw Chive
CRKT Small Pointguard
Wenger Traveler
...I think that was all?

New Collection:
Spyderco SS Delica PE AUS-6
Victorinox Soldier
Victorinox Camper
Victorinox Camper w/ custom Cocobola handles
Schrade Senior Rancher w/ Jigged Derlin
Old Timer small two blader
Kershaw Vapor
Buck 110
Buck 303T
...I think thats all?

Who could it be siezed by? Well when you are 17 living under your parents roof it could be seized by them... :( The new collection has been built without their knowledge, and it matters little now since I'm 18 and start college on the 28th.

I used to feel that way, but my oppinion changed. I'm not much for caring what kind of bladesteel a knife is, as long as it's not utter crap. Aus6 does a fine job of edge holding and is a breeze to resharpen.

The FRN handles are certainly grippier and more lightweight, but the SS is prettier and thinner. ;)

Well, my impression was off.

Sorry, Kevin. That really stinks.

Yeah, I had some pretty nice tools...especially the Spydies.

It's not that bad now. When I was 17 though it was certainly no fun as I couldn't buy anything in most stores. Now that I'm 18 I can find a decent selection of stuff, and I have friends with credit who will order stuff for me online sometimes. I don't have credit myself though, and my ATM card is joint-accounted to my Mom, so buying online myself is hard untill I get my own account.

College is right around the bend now, and I'll be living about 4 hours from home. Should be refreshing. :)

I know the feeling Kevin. I was 18 years old myself back in the dinosaur days of 1999. It was so great to be able to get what I wanted for the first time. Luckily my parents weren't knife nazis, but they would never let me buy toys like I have now. They've come around since then as they now realize I've not killed anyone in the past 5 years, and I was always obsessed with knives as a kid.

God, until this thread I thought I was young :(, oh well, as long as I am not too old to hold a knife :D. A long time ago, my parents had a similar opinion of me in connection with knives. But then in ninth grade I had to participate in a mandatory practical training and ended up in the kitchen of a major hotel in my hometown. Given my natural obsession with sharp objects it didn't take the cooks long to teach me "the ways of a kitchen knife". After that I had free reign with knives at home, though it was my obligation to keep the knives in the kitchen in "working" condition and to help during larger family dinners with various chopping and cutting chores. A good kitchen knife (especially of the Japanese variety) is still my favorite "sharp object".

Mmmh, Morgoth, and I thought your collection was conficated because you were planning to raze the earth from your fortress in the iron mountains  .

Ah, somebody knows Lord of the Rings. :)

For anybody who doesn't know, Morgoth is Sindarin (elf-language ;) ) for "Dark Enemy of the World." His true name was Melkor, he was a minor god, who through jealousy and malice became the creator of all evil.

He is responsible for the creation of all Orcs, Trolls, Dragons, Balrogs, and any feelings of evil. He fought great wars and corrupted much. After the last great war, he was thrown out of this world and into the Void. Being a god, he obviously is not dead, and his creations, and the whole concept of evil which he created, are left upon Middle-Earth. His apprentice, Sauron worshiped him, and later almost enslaved the world...Twice.

I promise that I'm really a good guy though.

Well, my first email address ever was feanor@....

See, I chose the good guy...sort of. He would be characterized as selfish, snobby, arrogant, reckless...but rather capable. These days I guess I would rather go with something like "Glamring"....I am so bumed that it didn't glow in the movie!

I thought the movies were pretty good, just nowhere near the books.
