In november I picked up a G-10 delica because the delica in my mind is pretty much a perfect knife and adding G-10 and a ffg to the mix seemed to make it to good not to own...

And it turned out I was right, it quickly became my most carried knife. The only problem was there was a small space between the lock and the liner, but it locked up super tight and was rock solid so I didn't care.

I just noticed that there is a washer stuck half between the lock/spacer and the tang. I guess this is where my problem was.

It really says something about a companies standard of excellence when a washer can not even be on the pivot and it's still one of the best and smoothest knives and I own

not sure what I'm gonna do with it now, I'll probably find the "take apart your delica" thread on the Spyderco forums and put it back myself. Because I'd really rather not send it all the way to Golden when it still works. But it'll probably fall out eventually so I should fix it.

Here's pictures so you know what I'm talking about.

Just thought I'd share- I'll let you know how it works out.

That's gotta be the weirdest factory glitch I've ever seen. Amazing that it works just fine still.

it almost looks like a penny was pushed in their from your pocket.

you might not want to send it back because its your EDC, but it might help with any future warranty issues. ive done that myself taking knives apart haha. the PB washers are nice because they stay flat, the Teflon ones fold like tacos and really bind it up!

I had something like that happen to me a while back. The blade was gritty to open and I saw what the issue was after closer inspection.
It's really not that tough to take apart a lockback. Make sure you have a cereal box or something simlar (large-ish shoe box for the screws to fall into). I use an old box some hiking shoes come in.
The trick to being successful is leaving the tention spring for the lock on the side of the blade that has the PB washer correctly on it. Grab some cotton swabs, 3-in-1 oil and clean it up while you are in there. Should be done in a few minutes. Just take your time.

Thats amazing.

How in hell can the blade even open without pushing the washer out, or worse, crumbling it!?

I would love to inspect and take that knife apart.

lol, I have no idea! but I play with knife all the time, it gets opened close to 20-25 times a day when im sitting around watching tv. Im gonna take some pictures when I take it apart and post them when all is said and done.

Thanks for the link marthinus

That's the funniest thing I've read in a while. It'll feel like silk after you actually get that washer in the right place! BTW, did you end up with lint down in that crevice?

Yeah, it was pretty full of lint. I couldn't give it the cleaning it needed because the bottom 2 screws were stripped before I even touched them :grumpy:

Even so, I was able to clean it out ok, and I got the washer put in place. So im happy.

This knife was for sure made on a monday morining :p. But oh well, it now works great and im not complaining.

-sorry for the lack of 'fix-it' pics but I was kinda mad about the 2 screws being stripped I forgot to take pictures.
