This has been quite a last couple of weeks for my Spyderco "collection." Just added a Shabaria and a Dyad to the stable. I'll probably use the Dyad but the Shabaria is probably the first knife I've ever gotten that I don't intend to use, although maybe I'll change my mind when I get it?

Good catch on the shabaria, they are getting harder to find. I was looking awhile back to get one for carry and it took me quite some searching to find one. Enjoy!

Hi Guys
It's great to fill gaps in the colection, just snagged 2 Renegades and 2 Police Models off Ebay. Paid plenty for the plain edge Renegade but the others were reasonable.
Feeding the madness
Phil :)

Good finds! I just picked up a dyad at a local gun store for 19.95. I dont think the owner knew what it was worth. It looked like it hadent been touched in years. I just had to take it off his hands.

Well, yeah, of course! I mean, the space that the Dyad was taking up was COSTING that poor store owner more than $20 a year, so you did him a huge favor! ;)

Where did you find the Shabaria?

Traded an Ed Chavar Monocacy for the Dyad and Shabaria, so it came from a private source. Both are NIB and only use has been treatment with Tuf Cloth, so I'm pretty excited to bang 'em both around a little! :D

That would be me. I couldn't see myself using the Shabaria even though it was a very nice knife. I almost traded it once before and backed out.

Here was a chance to get a knife that I thought I would use and make someone else happy at the same time. I think it was a win-win.

At the same time, I sure wish he hadn't started this thread. Trader's remorse and all that. :D

No, I'm fine with it. Really, I am. ;)

Like I said, Gary, maybe I can trade them back to you in a few years when the price goes WAAAAYYY up on them! :D ;)

Chris that was so righteous of you. ;)

BTW do you remember name of dealer :D

Well, just got both my knives today and I must say that the Dyad and Shabaria are probably the most unusual Spyderco's I own. Both are from '02. The Micarta is interesting. I've seen the really high gloss polished Micarta on Spydercos like the Calypso, but not the matte finish that these two have. The Dyad is about three times the size I thought it would be. Pictures make it look/seem small. I was thinking it would be a good EDC, but it's huge, thick and weighs a TON, so it'll stay around the house for me to enjoy! Opens really hard, too, but that's because the design doesn't use any washers. Cool knife, anyway.

The Shabaria is just as weird. Totally strange blade and handle shape, but not altogether uncomfortable. Bigger than I thought, too. Interesting lack of detailing like jimping on the spine and liner lock release, etc. Very cool knife, also not going to be used. Can anyone tell me what the little pins (not the screws) in the middle of the handle are for? Seems unnecessary to have them there, but then again I don't know why they're there to begin with! :D
If I had to guess I'd say the Shabaria is designed for reverse carry. It's more comfortable that way and the blade and handle seem designed for that. Any insight into this?

Chiro 75,
Glad you are impressed with your "stable mates" ;)
The Dyad's are " best of both of both worlds." I love mine !!!

Put some ..." I think Miltec" or WD-40 to loosen it up. I can hold the Dyad upside down..with my 3rd finger open either blade. Out of the box both edges will shave.

Most days I carry the Dyad jr or Cricket. Fits nicely in watch pocket. Plus the " Scoripus ". Now that's another classic.

The Shabaria has it's purpose ! Those little pins you mentioned are ( I call rivets). Look inside the liner.
