Would you believe that I have been a member of bladeforums for nearly a year and today was the first day that I've checked out this forum. I am so glad that I did.

These Khukuri's look excellent. I've been reading through some of the old posts and I especially like all of the pictures that are posted. All thats left now is for me to save up enough money to buy one.

Now heres a question:
What would you suggest to be a good khukuri to get first ?
If you could also post links to pics of your suggestions it would be most appreciated.
(Notice I said which one to get FIRST, coz theres no way I could just stick with one).

Also, before jumping the gun, do you ship to the UK ?

Uncle Bill will be along in a while and add his personal touch to your welcome, but in the meantime, put up a chair next to the cracker barrell and near enough the wood stove to get comfortable Llamedos. This forum gets a bit weird, ( I've compared it to the cantina in Star Wars ) but it always stays fun.

To answer your question about shipping, HI sends khukuris all over the world.

On which khukuri to start with, look for one of Uncle Bill's posts, and down as his signature you'll see links to the HI website, and also the HI Khukuri FAQ's that Howard Wallace has put up. Excellent start. Be sure to read the animal stories.

Bill's bestseller used to be the 15" AK, followed by the BAS ( the British Army Service, also 15" ) and I forget what was next. I think it was the WWII, at 16.5" Now, who knows. The Big 18" size WWII, the Gelbu Special, the 18" AK... all have their proponents as the absolute best all around khukuri until the next one the kamis come up with.

To repeat myself, the answer to whether you choose blonde, brunette, redhead, or raven tressed beauties is Yes ( to all of them ).

Depends a lot on what you are planning to use the khukuri for. If I did not have a clue what I would be using the khukuri for, I would pack my 18" WWII model. Its reasonably light, cuts and chops well.

Expecting to do a lot of chopping and splitting 22" Ang Khola.

Need save of space and still be able to chop and pry, 15" Ang Khola.

I'd add the Gelbu Special at or near the top of the first time buy list. It is special.

Welcome to a special part of BladeForums and your new addiction.

Welcome, stranger, and now you are a stranger no more.

Will Kwan got right to the heart of the matter. What do you want to do with your khukuri? This will help nail down which one is best for you.

Chances are 4 out of 5 you will end up with two or more anyway so it really doesn't matter all that much. And, you can trade if your first choice does not do what you expect. And trade again if required.

Again, welcome.

Khukuri FAQ

Thanks alot for the info so far. I've just saved the FAQ and have started to make my way through it.

As far as the intended use, if any, it will be extremely light (use that is). I'm extremely envious of all you people that get to go places to put them through their paces making them do what they were made to do.

I consider myself primarily as a collector, and all of the knives that I own (which isn't many, YET) get the same type of light, if any use. I just admire the skill and workmanship that goes into them and that would be even more evident in a khukuri. I just buy what I like the look of, and if I cant afford it at that moment in time I save for it until I can. And now HI khukuri's have been added to my wants list. I will definately be in contact with you Bill when I have the cash. Speaking of cost how much do the following cost:
  1. AK various sizes
  2. BAS model (or models) various sizes
  3. WWII model (or models) various sizes
  4. Gelbu Special (size ?)
  5. Hanuman Special
  6. Sirupati's
and there was this really nice one that I saw on the HI website new for 2000 with loads of silver:
  7. BirGorkha Kothimoda
Or was this just a one off. [/list=a]

As you can see there's one or two that I like

Also how much would shipping to the UK cost and how would it be packaged ?
