Hey Buck-aroos! :)

I have a large Buck/Strider tanto. One of the things that drew me to it was an article that Dexter Ewing wrote a couple years ago for Knives Illustrated, reviewing the knife. One thing that Dex mentioned was that the knife makes for a good chopper, especially if you hold the knife near the back of the handle.

Well, that part of the article always made me wrinkle my face. Why the heck would anyone want to chop with a folder? This week-end me and my fiancee and soem friends went out to a corn maze that a local farmer has every year. They make this huge maze in a field of feed corn and money raised goes to charity. At one point we came across a section where a corn stalk, which was about 1.25" or thicker, and quite dense, was broken and laying across our path. Sure, easy enough to get around, but I thought I'd clear it quickly (we were racing, guys against girls) just to make the path clear for others. I grippe dmy folder near the back and snap chopped through that stalk with NO resistance at all! I knwo that if I had something like one of my less weighty, and thinner Benchmades, I could have cut through the stalk easily, but much slower. Or, I could have attempted the same chop, but I would have felt much more vibration, and I am not sure my Benchmades could have chopped through the stock.

So, this wasn't an example of high speed, hard core tactical use, but the weight and design of these suckers make them efficient choppers through things like thick corn stalks! I love my Buck/Strider even more, and I lust daily for a Buck/Strider spear point. On thursday I defend my Masters thesis (philosophy), and maybe I'll be able to save up and buy myself a present. 7 years of post-secondary education and the work that comes with it deserves a kick butt knife like a large spear point Buck/Strider, don't ya agree? :)

I agree totally, but how bout the solution? Or the new folder. Or.....:D

Crayola,

Good luck on the thesis. Yeah of course a good philosopher deserves a Buck Strider 880SP, and the new typed will be a really good one. :)
Think about the new washers, it can't be beaten!

Yeah Karl,
You definitely need to get the spear point.
And a new Bader grinder!:D
Shove the old Sears into the shed to turn handles on.

Good luck on your thesis.

You can't go wrong with a Buck Strider Spear Point. I have one and it will certainly grow on you after a while!! :)
