Well, it started out that I received a message from Mike that he had a notification from the New Zealand post office that a parcel was not delivered to my address because. blah blah blah.... it went on, so Mike messaged me to let me know what was happening.
This was all a bit of a surprise to me, as Mike was pretty quiet about the incoming knife, so.... Im off - I hot footed it to the post office and with some ID flashing around the place - I soon left holding a smokin' hot lil' package!
Now-Mike received a knife from me that was purely all my pleasure to gift one of Blade-forums good guys a knife!, well I'm guessing that Mike felt the scales of gratitude were sloping one way a bit too heavy, so he sent me a absolute corker of a knife, now this ol' girl is quite old and he must know me a little bit, because I really love this knife...Mike my friend, thank you very much, this is a treasure, as are a few of my other knives that have been gifted to me, they mean so very much more, I mean this with all my heart, thank you for this lovely knife.
This knife here is a tank of a knife-solidly built by the Solingen Cutlers Wester & Butz, this firm was in existence in the late 1800's, and from Googling, they put out some pretty decent knives-which comes as no surprise as I introduce you to my Wester & Butz ebony Handled Spear point Jack with neat solid German Silver Bolsters. The fit and finish is still superb, the W & T is still perfect, and tells you very clearly when this knife is opened or closed with a healthy snap!
I am in the thoughts that for a knife that is getting close to 100 years old, its looking pretty darn nice, and I have always said that Ebony looks its best - when its old..... here's my proof friends, I LOVE old Ebony, and I LOVE this knifes' scales - just something about it - you know what I mean...
Like the song by good old Eric Clapton "I get off on '57 chevys".... ..well...." I get off on smokin' Swedges, Ebony scales and long pull blades"
here is mikes very generous gift to a most grateful Kiwi, I hope you like looking at my latest edition to my obsession
Just one more look...
