DAMN - I'm used to Ernie's knives having the double detent! This bad boy opens if I breathe on it hard! Hey Don - remember that inertia opening you showed me? I can do it with my '98 by just flicking my wrist. It's cool, and all, but I'm worried about it opening in my pocket. Think I should tighten the pivot?

By the by - I'm glad Ernie doesn't lock-tite his screws. I'd be up the creek if he did! :D

Chris

I set mine at a "sweet spot". Hard to explain, I just do it. It's secure in the pocket (I carry in my rear pockets and the blade isn't trapped by the seam like the front pockets). But loose enough to pop open with force on a "Wrist Roll" inertia opening.

Damn thier smooth. :D

I hear ya, John. I think I'll tweak mine a hair, and see what that does. If I don't like it, I'll just put it back.

And, yes, they ARE smooth. :D

Talking about inertia openings...I just recently noticed that my 2000 BTS Commander opens like that. I have tightened the screw down and you can feel the blade is noticeably harder to open but it still opens by inertia very easily. I don't remember the knife ever being able to do that before. It seems like something with the knife has changed. Loosened up a bit maybe? Could it be that the screw looses it tension? Of course if I tighten the screw down as hard and far as it will go I cannot open it by inertia but the blade then is very hard to open. Something that needs fixing?
I haven't taken it apart yet or used locktite on the screw.
PS.by the way, if I take it apart will little pieces fall all over the floor that I will never figure where to put them?

Commanderfan,

No you'll be fine.

When I take one apart, just as when I work on guns, I group the parts in groups. Clip & it's screws in one pile, Right scale & it's screws in one pile, Left scale and it's screws in one pile, ect.

The toughest part is threading the pivot bolt back through the scales, liners, bushing and blade. There are two bushings, don't panic. The smaller one is from the lock side, the larger is from the other side of the blade. If you go to put the larger one on the lock side, it'll be too big.

Pretty damn easy.

As with anything mechanical, it wears in and gets smoother. To use a Glock example, I hate brand new Glocks. The slides feel like their lubed with sand. After a few hundred rounds they smooooth right out.

John

Chris, I'd imagine that yours (#29) and mine (#28) are pretty much identical twins. My blade was moving a bit too freely as well, but a 1/4 clockwise turn of the pivot screw nailed the "sweet spot" as John has so aptly dubbed it.
Just a slight turn achieves.....perfection. :D
