That's about the thousandth "wow", since the mail came. The BIG UBE arrived. Uncle, you must be sending them by private jet, or your new mail service is doing something the other only claimed to do.

Another dragon scabbard - very well done - but this one is coiled and cranky, ready to strike. Seems to personify the contents. Karda and Chakma are very nice, and need absolutely nothing done to clean them up.

Comparing the same blade style, designed and done by the same master kami, but several months apart, is fascinating. I needed another UBE like another cold, but the results were worth it. The blade is only 1/2" longer than my first one, but is 3/4" wider for almost its' full length. The spine is 1/16 narrower. Can't compare weight, but there is very little difference. I called the first one a Bowie on steroids. This one is very different, with the large handle, so I can't classify it yet. Gotta go chop something :) Lunch break - it slices chicken fried steak like a razor. SWMBO is still livid...HEE

As a guess, the handle is a walnut. Not Saatisal, for sure. The grain that is visible is "flame grain", comparable to fine Circassian, with no visible burls. Uncle, this demands serious woodchuckery. :D I'll only take it down as necessary for a new finish. Although large, it offers a great deal of control, and will accept the thumb and three fingers of my left hand for an "assisted", if not fully two-handed grip. This is without choking up on the bolster. The slight difference in weight and measurements are felt much more strongly than they might appear in text. This is a GBHUBE (Great Big Honkin') :D

It could be walnut, Wal. I've seen walnut trees growing there. That grain sort of has a "glow in the dark" quality about it that is very attractive indeed. After you do your woodchukery magic I hope there's someway Alan could get us a few pix of the final product. It is a hell of a knife, for sure -- a bruiser, user.

Many thanks for usual fine report.

Congrats, Wal. I can see your grin from here. :)

I am just glad that it went to someone that had the proper woodchuckery skills to do it justice. And although that post hurts, I still have money to buy real food, and not live off my stockpile of MRE's canned tuna and romin noodles.:barf:

That last post I made is a real bummer.

I didn't mention that I have a date did I? Oh yeah, and just to show off...I wont tell you that she is related to the Sarki Shop...Doh! (I think I may be hearing about this, but technically I did nothing. ;) )
:p :p :D

..my grin, your screen would flare out

Dave - "Technically" won't help you - your only warm fuzzies, now, may be the dust bunnies under the bed

Iiiii Dunno...Uncle said they get viscious..the bunnies..er..the dust bunnies....

The handle will probably put me in the Formby's Recovery Room at the Betty Ford Clinic. In the meantime, it has a blade (almost unnoticed, but right in front of the handle). It is pure Sanu, and the measurements are above (somewhere), but it is unusual in one respect. I'm usually too lazy to get up and go into the other room for a Chakma, when my files are right at my elbow. I steel the edge with the flat side of a small Swiss file, forged and polished at, I would guess, 62+ RC. The sweet spot on the UBE begins 4" ahead of the cho, for another 5", and the last 3 1/2" are back down to the usual 57-58. The sweet spot marked the file handle. Not really believing this, I increased the angle slightly and bore down, and it NICKED the file. Finn said the UBEs are good for dismantling houses, but I didn't think he meant the plumbing, too

Sanu made that knife because he wanted to make it.
He was the one who originated the design and presented me personally with the first UBE. When he wants to do something and has a good day as I've said before there is not another kami in Nepal who can do any better than Sanu.

....Weeeeellll..there aren't any :D

A good Khukuri will comfort any fears you have ever had about being attacked by a tree, or telephone poles. Sanu has taken this to a new level - I no longer fear transmission towers..."YO!! You, in the Peterbilt!! You honkin' at ME??"

Besides being very, very pleasant to look at as you have observed that knife is capable of doing some very, very serious damage. Sanu at his best.

Wal,

Although happy at your new acquisition... I think I'm jealous :p . I don't think I'm going to read this thread anymore, because I've been told it isn't nice to covet your father's possession... It is much better to wait for the inheritance :D.

I hereby place my bid in for both UBE's and the Guard. My older sibling can have the rest... Oh, wait, I want the Chitlangi too... I can't forget the Chitlangi!!!

With my deepest love and sincere wishes for you continued good health :D:D:D

Alan
