My Manix came in yesterday!

Through a series of events that included a backorder of another knife and a change of heart on my part, I also took possession of an Al Mar SERE 2000 yesterday from the same UPS guy. Wow! Talk about a great day! :D

Some people like to compare these two knives since they are heavy duty folders. Okay. I'll do a quick comparison.

I like them both. The SERE has a better fit and finish on observation. Both are equally smooth to open and close. Both lock up tight and release as they should. The Manix has a wider blade that looks to be more robust. The handle of both are G10 (my first knives in this material). The Manix has a bigger handle with slab sides. The SERE has thicker G10 and is more radiused. Both feel good in the hand with the Manix feeling a little more secure. Both were sharp out of the box. The Manix was sharper. In fact, the Manix was more than "hair popping" sharp. The small hairs on my arm popped off with the SERE but, when they saw the Manix approach, they freakin' surrendered and fell out. I ran the blades of both knives over an old product catalog I had laying around. The SERE cut with little effort, the Manix sliced deeper with less effort.

I have a couple of other knives in VG10 steel like the SERE and I like it. This is my first knife in S30V. I think the Manix will fill the bill as a hard use knife for my weekend landscape and odd job projects. It's a knife I won't worry about getting nasty. The SERE will probably see less hard use but I may end up carrying it more often due to its smaller size.
