Got mine today. BATF is faster than it used to be but still darn slow. Anyone have experience with these?

Is "Wraith Suppressor" the new, PC job title for an exorcist?

Sorry, couldn't resist...

I'm an Evo-9 guy myself. YHM seems to have a pretty good reputation overall. I'm still partial to AAC, Ops Inc, and SWR though. Since AAC lowered their prices, a lot of value based choices got a lot harder.

These gadgets are very confusing . Wraith Suppressor - a .45 auto pistol ? because BATF is Bureau of Alchohol Tabacco and Firearms. Evo-9 - a Mitsubishi Evolution 9 ? SWR -standing wave ratio ? important to radio Hams !! More than once I've Googled a metallurgical word only to find most listings are for a rock group by that name or a video game !!

What have we stumbled into here? A geek fest? Some weird southwestern cult? C'mon you guys, let us know what the heck you're talking about. Enquiring minds want to know. :D

A Wraith suppressor is a firearms sound suppressor. fracmeister, it would probably be helpful if you supplied a little more info as to what gun you're going to use it on.

I personally have no experience with the Wraith.

Beretta 9mm Police Special. Threaded barrel of course. Crimson Trace laser grips. At least it winds up looking very James Bond-esque. But as I just got it I have not had any chance to try it out...

Handgun and rifle sound suppressors. I like AOW, SBS, and SBR's too! :D

AOW - Any Other Weapon
SBS - Short Barreled Shotgun (Sawed off ;))
SBR - Short Barreled Rifle

Oops, almost forgot the DD ... Destructive Device :D Lobbing 40mm chalk rounds is fun!

If you had called it a moderator then Maximus would know what you were talking about !!

Here in the UK, game shooters are actively encouraged to fit moderators/suppressors to rifles.

One small way we are ahead of the USA...

I paid 600$ a night for a hotelroom in London that coud easily be had for 99$ a night in Houston a few weeks ago. There's another way you are ahead....

Hey Sid Post,

I live in Ohio, where it is legal to own a silencer/suppressor but I'm confused on all the steps to buy one. Can you explain to me what steps you went through to buy one and if you went through the local police/sheriff office or did you start up a corporation to own it through?

I would really like to buy one, but I'm foggy on the "easiest" way (or more surefire way per se). I'm in the National Guard, so I imagine that would help with the police/sheriff route as I would give them the reason of "hearing preservation."

Please give me any advice you have before I go to the silencertalk forums...

Thanks,
Ryan

P.S. Are there any silencer/threaded barrel combos for the new S&W Military Police .40? I would put a silencer on a .223 M4-type piston-powered system such as the POF P-415, a Robinson Arms XCR, or the Leitner-Wise Rifle Company's M6 A2. What are the regulations about barrel length in Ohio? Can I get a CQBR barrel length in say a 10.5" or 14" even?

Thanks again...

If you ever want to share your suppressor with someone like your wife, go the corporate or trust route. If it is licensed to you, you must be present anywhere it goes so, you cannot loan it to your wife for example.

Personal transfers are an option in some areas and not in others. It has nothing to do with you personally and everything to do with local politics in your local law enforcement area.

If you want a short barrel rifle, register your AR-15 lower and have fun! :D

Piston rifles like the LWRC run really well with a suppressor. They have the added benefit of not putting back pressure into your chamber and "gassing" you (when a large volume of gas hits the chamber, it will go out the ejection port and back down the action into your eyes :().

When suppressing a pistol, you really need to stick with a mainstream model that has aftermarket barrel options. In my case, a Glock 17L barrel can be cut down for a G17. Beretta M9's can have their factory barrels threaded. Pistols like the HK USP SD-9 come threaded from the factory. :)

I have a freind who registered a suppressor on a Form 4 before the NFA Branch moved to Martinsburg, and it took him a little over 18 months to get it approved. I just registered (applied to make) an SBS on a Form 1, and it got approved in 32 calendar days after dropping my ap in the mail, including the 4th of July holiday and it got approved 6 days after going pending , which included a weekend. Compared to the old days I would say that's pretty good. And, Form 4 transactions nearly always go through quicker than Form 1's.

I have my own business and in the course of it have a few companies. I definitely recommedn that route. In our city it is next to impossible to get anyone to sign off on any Class III device. They don't even see the applications through a corporation.

Another thing is... what if you're out on the range and you own your silencer through a corporation you've started just to own the thing (which I still don't fully comprehend). A LEO walks up to you (or range control) and asks you about your suppressor and starts giving you crap... what do you do? Can they confiscate it if you're totally within the rules of owning it and have the paperwork (I imagine with you).

All of this seems so daunting... it's worse than college.

P.S. Thanks for the advice though.

London is an ancient, scenic capital city with thousands of attractions, which draws in millions of tourists every year.

Houston is...errrr...

;)

Houston has the worst corrosion problems in all the USA [ I've studied their corrosion problems !]!!! They have to be first in something !! ......Maximus , you don't need a moderator, just throw your truncheon at the BG !

Houston has its attractions. A zillion oil men. Former home of ENRON. Humidity. Traffic. Katrina refugees battling it out with MS13 gang members for turf. Then there are the negatives to consider!!
