Is there anyone who can direct me to some good diagrams and text on this wrapping method using paracord?
Any help for a FNG would help.
Thanks

This was my first modest attempt ths morning,

hmmm
the first pic describes the lanyard version?
what did you do with both loops at the end? any special way of ending?

This type of wrapping is very common, often used for preventing the ends of rope from unravelling (whipping), you may find it described in books, and sites dealing with knots and rope or boy scout manuals. Also used in fishing rod building, string wrapping bamboo flutes, etc.

Basically you make a loop and wrap tightly around it, when you cover all you want you put the end of the cord inside the loop and pull it inside the wraps, about halfway so that both ends are held tight inside, then you cut the exposed ends.

you can also use a separate loop, lay the loop along with one end of the cord over the handle or whatever you want to cover, wrap tightly over them, when finished put the loose end inside the loop and pull it completely out towards the beginning of the wraps, now you have one end of the cord at each end of the handle, make sure all is tight and cut the exposed ends.

Here´s a PDF:

Edited for spelling.

You might try the Strider knives web site at striderknives.com There is a page with photos that provide a very efective wrap technique. All the best.

i don't really like the idea of leaving the end cut
what i do for mine is to end them with some kind of knot
seems rather inelegant to me :o

I have one question that has always puzzled me on the Strider cord wrap, where does the third cord come from in the 2nd picture, you know the one he has in his left hand? Any help would be awesome. Thanks.

I did a great job wrapping my Delica. It looked real cool. But when I closed the blade, all the wrapping fell off. Oh well.

hummer784,

there are actually two cords, the one you refer to just goes around the handle and serves as a base or underwrap.

hotshot969,

What kind of braid do you mean?, and what is it for?, I sometimes make my own cords by fingerloop braiding nylon crochet string, I can do round or flat braids usually with 4 to 6 strands.

Tio,

I could try wrapping my Delica while it is closed, but then I wouldn´t be able to open it, Oh well.

hey Don, i clicked a link and saw a blade wrapped with paracord, and on the end it had a braid, it looked neat, i cant remember the link though.......
