wrapping handles with thin cord

I am looking for a site where I can learn a few knots/techniques for wrapping a handle. I do not want to use paracord, but rather a thin hemp/cotton/linen twine.

Let’s see if we can find the right forum …

Check out "How to whip a rope" on this page: http://www.inquiry.net/outdoor/skills/b-p/knots.htm

This is an easy one-piece knot solution for wrapping handles on just about anything.

I would suggest that nylon is better material than cotton, since cotton stretches and frays easily. I use nylon starter cord (Ace Hardware), a solid-core braided cord that doesn't stretch and doesn't wear. 3 mm starter cord is a good size, combining excellent grip with smaller diameter.

If the handle is tapered, the windings will tend to drift to the smaller-radius end of the handle. In that case, consider coating the wrapping with something that will bind the turns together (tool-dip, varnish, paint, etc.).

Hope this helps!

I have used Plasti Dip with satisfactory results on a cheap machete I wrapped with a firm cotton cord. The Plasti Dip leaves a rubbery, grippy finish, available in clear and several colors.
