Can all folders be opened by wrist flicking them open? I'm pretty new to knives and just wanted to know this. If not, what knives can be opened just by flicking it open?

Well I would say it depends on the pivot and how heavy the blade is !
There are a few made for this . Cuda maxx is one that pops into mind . There are lots of knive with the thumb flickers out now also .

Any knife that can be opened by flicking your wrist and nothing else is probably too loose! :)

Any of the axis lock knives can be opened by pulling back on the lock and jerking your wrist (they can close the same way). Knives with a flipper like the CRKT Kit Carsons or the Camillus Darrel Ralph Maxxes will fly open when you flick the flipper. The Emerson knives with the Wave and the Maxxes also open by catching them on a pocket and pulling away. The MOD QCD knives will flick closed when you push the locking button in.

Folder blades are held in place by friction. A tight (or dirty) pivot will keep them from flicking easily. They also have a detente to keep the blade from opening inadvertently. This is a tiny ball, metal or deramic, built into the inside of the frame, fitting into a dimple machined in the tang of the blade. It takes a certain amount of force to pull the blade past this safety.

With some force and practice, you can do this with any knife, including the Buck 110.

I wouldn't trust a knife in my pocket that could be easily flicked, however many knives can be flicked and are still secure.

BTW: Ask Brownie about "Brownie Popping"!:)

I can open my calypso jr with various wrist flick methods despite the very light blade and lock back.

But then I am special.

Not special enough to nail it 100% of the time though...

OK, how about a Buck 112fg? There has to be some point where the retention/locking mechanism overwhelms a light blade, preventing a "flick", right?

Shaun.

Well, sure. The CRKT BladeLock comes to mind.
