So had the day off was in a good mood and like Im gonna grind a knife today! So sat down and bleh couldn't figure out what kind of design I wanted. No ideas or anythign was comign to my head and I was just doodling semi knife shape objects. Ended up just taking some scrap and practicing some grinds but still no knife idea or design popping in my head. Anyone else ever get like this? :(

Every time I pick up a bar of steel, lol.. Happens to me all the time.. fortunately right now it's more important for me to be practicing grinds than imagining wonderous things, as I'll only disappoint myself not being able to create them yet. Maybe the best thing to do is take a step back, watch a movie, read a book.. look for some inspiration.. ? At least that's what I would do.

make yourself another kitchen knife that does one thing really, really well. grind it, and then set it aside. do another one. and then another. just keep doing them until you have run out of steel, have more kitchen knives than you or your family will ever use, or have perfect grinds every time. then do handles for them all. what are you waiting for? get started!!!

I am half serious and half joking. it would probably be a good exercise, but it is unnecessary unless you have no kitchen knives. then again, it would probably be valuable and would get you some cool knives too.

For me I make a list, just like I have a list of orders, I make a list of blades for shows and sale, now I don't always make them in order on my list but it helps me when I have a little free time.

I am always doodling knife designs. Almost all of them will never make it to the grinder. But you might get a good design out of 1 or 2 of them. If that fails, then just look at images of the style of knives you like. Sometimes you just have to look a little harder for the inspiration.

Go to google images, type in "knife" and hit enter. There are 298,000,000 images there for your inspiration.
