Spectre asked me to post his address (for the next month) in case anyone wanted to write.

Specialist John R. Shirley
CRC D CO
10480 El Caney AVE Harmony Church
Fort Benning, GA.
31905-3525

He wanted to extend his very best wishes to all of you.
After about a month, he wont be there.
His reassignment will take him who knows where.
Though I've a strong suspicion where.

I know our hearts and prayers will be with him.

Thank You Munk. Smoke for John.

Yes, thank you very much Munk.

I've been meaning to call John, and feel like a bit of an ass because I haven't.

Thanks for the info Munk. I'll drop him a line. In the meantime smoke and good wishes.

Hey, y'all!

Wasn't able to access Blade Forums from Fort Benning. I think I can from Camp Shelby, MS, which is where I'm mobilizing from, but I have had much less opportunity to get online since I've been here.

Short version: I'm going to Afghanistan now, with the 41st BCT. There's very little there now, but I'll post updates when able from my new website, www.JohnRShirley.com, which will also soon have links to contact me.

I'm probably shipping out in about 2 weeks, but don't have a hard date yet.

Blessings and peace,

John

Keep your head down John..

On the flip side the unit is lucky to have you with them.

Continued Smoke for your well being Uwinv.

Good luck, smoke and prayers for your safe return. If you need anything let us know. Be safe and check 6 often.

The below is quoted from the above website (U.S. Army website):

"And there were other hazards. Rodents were a problem at camp, not so much for disease but for the predators they attracted - snakes. Afghanistan has 270 varieties of snakes and 52 are poisonous, including the aggressive Saw-Scaled Viper. A bite from this snake could prove fatal. Soldiers received strong and consistent guidance regarding the storage of food in their tent that could attract rodents and, subsequently snakes"

On this eve of the Birthday of our Nation, I want to thank you and the other men and women in the service of our Country. Be carefull, John, stay alert and stay alive. God Bless!
