There's been a mix-up. I ordered the wood-handled 15" Kumar AK on the 9/24 pix and deals, but got something with a wood handle by Bura instead.

Whose khuk did I get, and who got mine? Let's not bother Uncle Bill & Yangdu with this if we don't have to.

thats happened to me in the past ordered a kobra got a WWII but no one else said theirs was missing so it must have been in the box... but it is a nice one

DRM, I checked and there was no other wood handled offering by Bura on the 9/24 deal of the day. Can you let us know the length and style and any other particulars so that we could help you track it down, and also check what you have against other deals of the day?

You're making the assumption that there has been a mixup and transposition of knives, but Uncle Bill ships his best buys out daily, which greatly reduces the possibility that knives from separate Deals of the day went to different folks. That would be two packaging errors as opposed to the more likely single one.

Personally, I would check with Uncle Bill and direct him to the deal of the day and item in question. He measures and weighs each knife before shipping and knows them individually, and could probably tell you what went wrong with a bit of research. As Yangdu often has a couple of hundred knives to sort through at any given time, I suspect that your 15" Kumar AK is still in Reno and you just got something similar by Bura.

Just my .02¢ worth. Good luck!

That is what I first suspected, that you got the right blade, but Bill put the wrong name on it. He does that sometimes- our old Duffer makes mistakes. Not a big deal. If it's the same one you looked at when ordering, I sure would keep it. I'd be inclined to keep it no matter what. Shipping will take you back 10 bucks over what was a special deal to begin with.

Hey- maybe the right khuk found the right master- who knows?

Thanks for the help!

The one I received looks just like the 18" Kobra on the HI shopping site. It has the initials S.B., which I think is Bura. It is definitely not a 15" Kumar AK!

Yangdu has been in touch already and we're going to exchange.

SB is sher.

makes the best edge and blade in my humble opinion. all around. Kumar makes the best visual and performer. so, his brother sher make great hard end performer- kumar also but more cosmetic.
my two cents- my two favorite kamis. I trust both with life.

I'm with you munk even though I value each kami's knives for different reasons and have tried khuks from all of HI's current Kami's.
Kumar and Sher put out the knives that suit me best.

I actually have a hard time deciding between Kumar and Sher. I think Kumar more often pays attention to the lines and shape and finish. But I trust Sher right off the bat- his blades take such a pounding.

I miss Kesar. He made a blade that took a lickin and was what it had to be. You could sharpen one easily, too. A real working class bladesmith.

Bura is arguably still the best- but he is in some decline. ( I have some of his 'decline' peices that are every bit as good and better than Kumar and Sher, so go figure)

It will always be an honor to own a Bura - even post stroke. A handforged blade from the Master still hanging in and putting out great stuff.

Bill & Yangdu are wonderful people.

Not only did they correct the mix-up promptly, they gave me a Kagas Katne for my trouble. Considering all the problems they're having right now, that's remarkable. G-d bless them.

Such people make me feel like a complete a$$, considering how selfish I can often be.

BTW, this is my sixth khuk. I can now see why the 15" AK is their bestseller. This one was made by Kumar: 21 oz, sharp, and with the most comfortable wood handle you could imagine.

DRM, great news! That's exactly what we are used to here at the Cantina, great service! Glad you like your new AK, they are really nice Khukuris. 21oz, that's lighter then most of my khukuris! Bet it's really fast! :D Please give it a work out then post a field report. I always love hearing about using blades. ;)
