Alright,

I need to make a Christmas decision fast, and I can't make up my mind between these two awsome knives. Which would you prefer for EDC? The 806 has all the features that I like in a knife, but I'd prefer no BT2 coating (too "tacticle" looking and it scratches with use). A pretty minor detail, though. I sure wish BM would make it with a satin finish...

Also, the Al Mar has that "somthing" about it. You guys know what I mean!

Both feel great in my hand.

Anyway, how do you think these two match up?

Thanks!

I'm sure somebody else will say 806, but for me it would be the SERE 2000. That "something" is just too strong for me to go against! Everything about the SERE just feels right. I just sold my SERE DA a couple of weeks ago. Turned around tonight and ordered another SERE DA because I missed it so much! Go figure.

Well, I would normally say get the 806D2, but if you don't like the coating you should get the SERE 2000.

I am not farmilar with the Seer, I love the AFCK and after the last pass around I was in, I would choose the Shrike over it.

My favorite EDC is my SERE 2000 by a long shot. It is built like a brick sh!thouse, it opens smooth as butter, and it rides really low in the pocket. I honestly think it's the one single folder they'd have to pry from my dead fingers to get it away from me! I have benchmades too, but none of them feel as overbuilt as the Sere. That VG-10 blade steel holds a great edge too. It seems to keep sharp just as long as my D2 blades. It is pretty stain resistant also.

Between the two you listed, I'd pick the Sere hands down.

i guess maybe the BM has a better lock, but they are both excellent knives, i would flip a coin or pick the one that fits my hand the best.

my bud got a SERE recently, had never handled one, i'm impressed!! and i LOVE AFCK's, so, like i said, a TOUGH one, lol

Thruout so many years, I find myself going back to the AFCK (in one variation or another) as part of my production blade rotation. The balance point on my current 806 D2 is right at the large finger groove and has a four position (tip up or down) totally ambidextrous pocket clip carry. The SERE 2000 is on the handle heavy side and allows for tip up carry only, left or right hand. Both are excellent blades for EDC. FYI, the black coating on the AFCKs do not scratch easily unless you intend to put it to some real serious use.

My AFCK scratches quite easily, though I don't really put it through serious use. I guess it all depends on your definition of serious.

It definitely gets scratched while cutting cardboard. It got scratched the worst when cutting open plastic clamshell packages. Oh well, now my knife has character and battle scars to prove it. :)

Get the AFCK. Yes the coating scratches, but it doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would. I haven't scratched my 806 yet, but my M2 Stryker has several marks, especially around the tip. I love it anyway.

I have an older linerlock M2 AFCK that would still be my EDC if I could only have one knife. That said I prefer the construction of Al Mar knifes and am currently carrying an Al Mar Shrike every day.

AFCK - awesome design, perfect(for me)ergonomics

Al Mar - better(IMO)costruction, great design

The Shrike is much more comparable to the AFCK in ergonomics than the SERE, you might want to take a look before you decide.:)

SERE is allot tougher knife than the AFCK feels good in the hand in forward or reverse grips, blade holds a edge very well, knife looks great. The black coatings on any knife don't hold up to use but that is just part of it. The SERE feels better and stronger than the SHRIKE the SHRIKE is smooth opening and wicked looking but the SERE will feel better in the hand. Go with the SERE you won't be disappointed at all.

Okay, I'm going to be the A-hole here and suggest a knife not on your list:D I have owned the SERE 2K, and I just kept going back to my MicroTech LCC. It is better quality construction, looks more dressy (CF and Ti Gen II) and feels better in the hand. Plus you have the option of their TiNitride coating which doesn't scratch, or their bead-blast, or stone-washed. Now, finding one for the original street issue price of around $100 will not be easy, but would be worth it IMHO.

SERE 2000...better quality, better fit & finish, will drag your pants down.

BM...axis lock RULES KNIFEDOM, or at least the folding continent. Better EDC; save the Mr. Mar for the jungle to chop open 3" vines.

My 2 cents:

SERE - Love the grip but it seems big for the size and thickness of the blade. You can cut all day and not tire your hand. VG-10 is good stuff. The deep pocket carry clip is great for concealment but more difficult to draw. Very strong liner lock.

806 - Love the blade. D-2 is good stuff. Handle is great but not as good as the SERE. Rides higher but draws quicker. Axis lock is tough and fully ambidextrous.

If they only had a an 806 SERE (SERE 2000 handle, 806 Blade, axis lock) that would be my perfect EDC.

My advice - pick the one that feels best in your hand.
