I see some members using signature space for little pesonal advertisement. Well, I also looking for something…
Is it perfectly okay or just barely tolerated?

I don't see how "just barely tolerated" fits into the grand scheme of WTB/WTS sig lines. It's either OK or not OK.

If you're observing it. . . . .then it's OK. Warning shots haven't been fired (sticky at the top of each forum).

uh, isn't that is what the wanted to buy, forsale forums are for?

I know any ads or ad-like posts arent welcome outside Exchange. I'm looking for some knives and postied in WTB, with no result. I dont need no trouble.
Hense my question. Am I clear now?

For some people it doesn't matter as they have had sig line display turned off for years.

That works, but it doesn't address the fact that advertising in signature lines allows members to skirt the rule about only advertising in the appropriate forums, unless everyone does it, and then there would be no reason to have signature lines at all.

I happen to like reading some signature lines. If I turn that feature off, I won't be able to do that.

"Ads or ad-like posts" are completely different than "sig lines !"

Placing WTB/WTS BS in your sig line is OK. If it wasn't OK. . . .you wouldn't see them posted in sig lines.

Kinda makes sense. . . .don't ya think ?

How's that for clear ?

Hell. . . .there are Interweb Knife Dealers, who haven't purchased a "Dealer" membership, with sig lines pimpin' their Interweb Knife business. :D

Yeah, in my opinion they are worse, because they appear in every post that person makes.

Very true.

I think it is o.k. to post links on sig lines
If it really was an important issue it would of already have been addressed..

I did get a warning from a moderator some time ago on this point. It seems to be a grey area, subject to some interpretation. Clarity would be welcome.

I was under the impression that you could post wanted/sale/trade items in your sig with a certain level of membership.

Probably wrong though

I think that, like anything, it's fine as long as it's not abused. There's nothing wrong with a line or two giving a link to some guy's (or girl's) want or sales thread, or a special knife they are looking for.

It's fina as long as it stays at a line or two, not some huge banner with reams of text. That would get a bit annoying. Is there a size limit for sigs?

And if it is abused (not that I think it is atm), I would say to take it up with the individuals concerned, not punish the majority for the sins of the minority (Like our enlightened UK government seem to do all the time)

Just my humble opinion...

I've never put a link to a sale thread or advertised a knife, but I have used the sig line a couple of times when I was looking for a particular knife. Not everyone reads or searches the WTB forums. I was never contacted by a mod or infracted on those occasions.

Thanks for the replies everyone… actually I wanted to hear "an official okay" (i.e. from the mods). Anyway thanks for the help. I will be modest, promise (if I choose to change my sig that way).

If you are a Gold or Platinum member and the sig line is subtle rather than a outrageously large billboard I won't ding you for it.

Is that "official" and what about the other mods ? :D

I don't have a problem as long as it's not ostentatious. Non-paying members can't even have sigs, so it's not that big of a deal
