Most that know me also know that Steve Freund (Tomway owner) is a very close friend of mine. (as a matter of fact we met over the internet on TKCL and we live about 2 miles from each other.)
Steve posted this on TKCL today and with his permission I wanted to post it here. (Darby or Randy feel free to move it if it is inappropriate here.)
I would like to add that the Auction will start on Nov. 10th and the last day for bids will be Nov. 20th.
Here is Steve's TKCL email posted here with his permission.
Hello Everyone!
As most of you know, I have been the Ad Hoc Administrator for the World Trade Center Charity Knife Auction for the benefit of the NY Firefighters Burn Center at the Weill-Cornell Medical Center in New York.
Knife Collector Keith Kaiser started the whole thing to honor his fallen colleague, New York Firefighter, Christian Regenhard (also a knife collector), who died that day.
It's been a long road to the fulfillment of the project but the finale is in sight. The auction is going to be held on eBay shortly after the final display of these wonderful knives at the upcoming New York Custom Knife Show in November. I don't know the actual date for the auction and I've been told that the site for the auction should be up by next week. You can view the site, again sometime next week, here. (I edited the url to a hyper link - Gus)
The knives are being auctioned as a set only to the highest bidder, with a buyers premium added to the final cost. The winning bidder will make the check out to the charity directly.
There are 7 hand made knives (all fashioned from salvaged WTC steel), one for each building that fell on that terrible day. Each knifemaker has graciously donated his time and effort to the project and Tomway has donated the display case to house them. The knifemakers are, in no particular order, Jerry Fisk, Bob Terzuola, Allen Elishewitz, Gil Hibben, Bob Dozier, Mel Pardue and Pat and Wes Crawford.
PointSeven handled the publicity photos and a fine article appeared in Blade Magazine, thanks to our own Steve Shackleford. Many others have had behind the scenes involvement and they will be acknowledged once the auction has been completed.
Please tell all your friends to bid early and bid often;^) We hope to raise a lot of money for this fine institution.
Thanks for your support!
Steve Freund
