I realize that I'm posting on a topic which has been done many times before, but my WTC Knife arrived today. I requested and received #741 (to match my radio call #) and I'm somewhat lost for words to describe how much it means to me.

Others have done well in describing the box, and of course, the letter from Mr & Mrs Glesser which accompanies this beauty...

Please, if any of you are considering this investment/contribution, let me assure you that you will be hard-pressed to find a more meaningful expression for your dollars in terms of quality, and (more to the point) service and committment.

Thank you, Spyderco

Brian,

Glad to hear you got your matching number WTC Knife!! Congrats - indeed a fine tribute to those that serve. I seriously think that every Fire House and Cop Shop should have one of these on display, to both honor those that died, and to remember it's far from over with yet, and we should still be outraged. I bought a second WTC to display at Gun/Knife Shows so people could see the quality of this peice and hopefully stimulate them to participate in helping the families of those who gave so selflessly. Sal & Company should be commended for this project!!

Hawkbill,
It's good to see you received your matching knife. I wore mine this during this past Sept. 11. I'm not in the S&S field, but I felt it was the least I could do. I've been considering another one. Maybe as a gift to the town's police chief :)

I also wore my WTC (#404) on 9/11 as I continued my training for the Los Angeles Fire City Deprtment. The city also dedicated a 9/11 memorial at the department headquaters that day. A special day that I will never forget.

I look forward to wearing this knife next Sept 11, and each anniversary thereafter. In the meantime, I'm doing my best to inspire those I work with to order one for themselves.

When the D'Allara Rescue becomes standard production, I will have to move my SpyderHawk over to make room in a pocket! What a great design!

#741 - I thought the run was only about 300???? Was it bigger than that, or did they not start at 1 with the numbering?

Pardon my ignorance.

edit - Nevermind. 300 was the number of donated knives for rescue workers.

To quote the Spyderco site:

" To honor these lost souls there will be 2819 numbered pieces made with the New York World Trade Center skyline. There will be seven additional “thank you” pieces made for special people in the project. Each piece will be individually numbered (e.g., 642 of 2819)."

You guys really put a smile on my face.
Though I hadnt seen him in awhile, John D'Allara was my first lifting partner in H.S. and for years after, and he was one heck of a good guy.

Dave:

Glad to know that this brought some fond memories...Our departed friends and family live on in our hearts.

Brian

Could someone post picture of that knife? (those on Spyderco web are too small). Thanks.

David
