WTK: Value of Gerber MkII purchased in 1974

LNIB/ never used- box has seen some wear. Bought new at Fort Benning in 1974. Ser # 36XXX. Brown leather shealth with sharpening stone.
Any idea of value? Am considering selling.

What steel was used in the 70's era Mk II's? I also have one from '78 and it keeps a nice edge. Definitely not stainless but it doesn't seem like 1095 either.
 
The steel is probably L-6. For a value on the Gerber, try Ebay. Run a Google search for the "Gerber Guy", he's a big time Gerber collector.
 
www.gerberknives.com , That's the Gerber Guy's website. He should be able to tell you what the market's like on them. Bernard Levine also is very knowledgible on them, but he charges $25 to apprise a knife.
