Do you need to reach a certain post count to be able to start a new thread?

No, you need at least a Basic paid membership.

You need a Basic membership to post a trade thread,
a Gold membership to sell what you've bought,
a Knifemaker membership for what you have made,
or a Dealer membership if you sell for others.

Please update your usergroup to show you have a paid membership. To do this Click on Settings (top right) -> Permissions Groups and update.
