Hi all, newbie post! I confess to know nothing about knives so please excuse my ignorance.

My grandfather has left me his WW2 bayonet (I'm trying to post pictures but not sure how from an iPhone?)

It's in ok condition apart from the blade which is rusty. I really don't know what to do for it that's best? I've read reviews saying leave it alone and also reviews saying clean it up? I want to look after it as it obviously meant a lot to him and I want to honour that.

Any help or advise most welcome, or if anyone can tell me how to put pictures up from an iPhone ill post and if anyone has any information about the type of beyonet it is I would like to hear about it. My grandfather was very secretive about himself during the war so I know very little about his this time of his life.

Any support greatly appreciated.

Being as it belonged to your grandfather, and has probably seen real action. I think I would put a thin coat of oil on it and leave it be. It took alot of time and years to get it looking the way it does now. You couldn't get that kind of patina back if you wanted to.

really need a pic.
how rusty is it?
As buckman says -a
thin wipe of oil will help. 3 in 1 oil/light sewing machine oil will do.
