WW2 Handmade knife

I have a handmade knife from WWII that was given to my father while in Saudi Arabia. My dad had saved a horse from being beaten to death, nursed it back to health and gave it to a family. This man made my father this knife as a thank you. I'm in the process of cleaning it up. Has anyone ever seen one like this?
