I'm new here but don't need to ask too many questions but I'm curious to get some feedback from any WW2 knife aficionados here.
I have a Cattaraaugus 225Q knife and it is a dull as can be. It is not like someone took a grinder to is and shows no signs of having been ground with a grinder or stone. To the best of my knowledge the blade has the contours similar to blades made by Bussie with a gentle rounding where it would normally have been sharp.
Was that typical of this knife and it was up to whomever it was issued to to sharpen it?
Thanks

Pictures of the specific knife would be extremely helpful

Yes, that is the type of knife posted a question about. I didn't post any pictures cause I'd assume that when you say a Cat 225Q you would know the knife in question. Mine has no marks of sharpening at all and would have trouble cutting warm butter. My question was did they come sharpened from the factory or were the blades in need of sharpening once they had been issued.

If it is actually a knife from WW2, its 80 years old or so. Was it sharp 80 years ago? Probably. 80 years later, not so much.....All knives that are used will need to be sharpened at some point. Thats pretty much a given......
Again, pictures would help to show what exactly you are talking about here.

I would agree, the knife just dulled with use over the last 8 decades.

Check out usmilitariaforum dot com under edged weapons. There's some good info posted there on these knives, it's older but good.
