Ww2 machete scales repair?

A friend gave me his 1945 dated British machete to sharpen. One of the scales has the front 1/2" or so missing, broken off at the front pin. I'm assuming it's bakelight. I don't want to replace the scales, they're still tight. Is there an epoxy a person could rebuild that area with? If so, would the bond to the steel keep it in place? It's not a display piece, he uses it a lot chopping thistles, nettles, etc.

Thanks in advance.
Tom.

The problem would be finishing the fronts to make them look good.

Id probably want them off. Work on them, then reattach afterwards

I would probably use a black epoxy putty to sculpt an extension. If possible I would drill a hole or two into the top of the damaged scale and glue some pins into 'em to mechanically connect the old scale to the new putty.

That's what I was thinking, but I didn't know. If ignorance is bliss, I'm probably the happiest person you'll ever meet
