So I was watching this WW2 documentary on YouTube last night called "The First Fighters in New Guinea, 1942 - 1944". It was filmed in both Australia and New Guinea and it's basically amateur home movies filmed by one of the squadrons officers, Lt. Col Ken Gerrish USAF, RET. The fighter squadrons represented are the 35th, 36th and 80th Fighter Squadrons of the 8th Fighter Group.
Anyway, a few minutes in he captures some footage of pilots during a debrief after a combat mission over Rabaul sometime after May 1942. One of the pilots is wearing a knife I'm not familiar with. I was able to grab some screen captures and thought I'd post them here.
