My grandads old WW2 sheath knife was recently dug out of an abandoned tool box. I remember using it around 20 years ago and it had some sort of metal cuff between the wooden handle and blade. I assume this rusted off.

Can anyone recommend something I can use to retrofit between the blade and handle to make the knife useable? I'd like to avoid changing the character of the knife if possible.

Any advice is much appreciated, thanks.

I found this image online, but I assume the blade would have to be dislodged from the handle to retrofit something like this..

If this knife has sentimental value, I would ask one of the several knifemakers here on this forum to restore it.
If the knife has little to no value to you, you could search for a bolster of that type on several online knife parts supply
stores. But yes the tang would need to be removed from the handle.
