More musings on EBay offerings. 2194860627 is offered as a WWI model. It frankly looks too good to be a real vet. And "gold" trim?!! Clean up? Fancy up? Never was? And check out the opening price of $325. (I guess its the gold.)

Hi again,
That looks like a nice 1950s Indian army style kukri with brass fittings!
EBay ? Let the buyer beware!

I don't know how many times I have told people that this is a NEW kukri with marks copied from an authentic WW I piece. Since this guy is attempting to sell it as the real thing, I can call it a fake. If he professed ignorance, different story. These are just a figment of someone's imagination and not even a reproduction or copy since there never was such a military kukri.

You might want to ask him what makes him believe that a knife that is supposedly 86 years old could look so new and why he thinks it is authentic. Ask about the neccesary marks on the scabbard or what type leather it is, etc., etc. You might also ask how he came up with the amount of 'gold' on it. Unbelievable. Then again your questions will probably make him very defensive and you would get into an argument that isn't worth the time. He appears to be a new seller, so maybe he really does think it's the real deal but anyone who pays 1/10th what he's asking isn't getting a good deal.

EBay like anything you buy deserves a goodly amount of CAVEAT EMPTOR.

In my early days I got one of these from ebay and returned it to the seller asking him to oblige his '' Money back guarantee'' I noticed he immediatly re-listed it and re sold it! however I never could get him to give me my money back! A real nice guy! yep caveat emptor is right, in spades! Rod

I have always tried to remember that "If it looks too good to be true . . . . " Here, it didn't look right and the condition was too good to be true. The seller responds, by the way, that he only repeated what he was told and "is not an expert." "Not an expert" seems second only to "I believe it is [fill in the blank]" as a cop out.

Item was withdrawn by seller after (I don't claim "because of") my reminder to "Robin" of the value of a 100% positive feedback record. Looking at "Robin's" other items, this is not a big blade seller.

Yep. I don't know much about Kuhkuris, but I saw this auction and laughed out loud. (This is a rare occurance for me).

There's no way that's gold.

And even if it was as old as claimed, the blade was heavily polished..if you look close to the hilt.. so anyone buying it for historical value would be horrified..

I woulda paid $30 for it though. it doesn't look THAT bad

:p
