I have a wonderfull 16,5" wwII by Kami Sanu. I have a problem with its buttcap which tend to turn on itself when I chop. Any ideas to resolve this little problem?

Thank you, and Happy New Year 2003 Forumites!!!

Stephen.

I don't understand exactly what the problem is but I know there's a solution no matter what it might be. Try again. If I could speak French there would be no problem.

Stephen,
You could try and get some super-glue or epoxy under the loose buttcap and/or peen the tang down some more where it comes through the buttcap.
Have a great New Year,
Greg

When I'm chopping there're vibrations, and the brass buttcap turn (but not the wood handle).

You could try to tap the litle copper plate top side,then take a soldering iron and gently heat the large copper plate.The laha will heat up and reglue the copper.
Greetings Karels.

In the picture you posted, there are three parts:

1) the brass buttcap;
2) the smaller brass keeper;
3) the peened over steel tang in the very center.

If it's really loose, remember that the cyanoacrylates ( super glues ) will cause a reaction with the laha. It will melt and heat the laha up, then cool off. Squeeze a whole bunch in there quick as you can, then tape the buttcap in place down tight so the glue can't run back out, then invert ( turn the butt down ) and let the stuff dry. That should really fix it good.

When my ak loosened up, I just tightened the smaller brass keeper.;)It may be off alittle but it's tight,remember to cover it with something so not too scracth it to much.FRANK C....
