SOLD
Before I deal with that auction site I thought I'd try this here.
This is a WWII German Red Cross Hewer. The blade is marked "Ges. Geschutzt" and the frog has a "H" on the backside near the bottom. You can find some background on the Hewer here.
The fittings are white metal castings (pot metal) which were plated. The "bubbles" are a common problem with these knives.
It's obviously not been well taken care of as you can see. At some point someone took a grinder to the tip to try to put an edge on it which may not be obvious from the pics. It also appears someone tried to sharpen it.
I've been told by someone in the know that's it's probably worth around $450. I'd like $325$300for it, shipping (USPS) and insurance to CONUS included. I'd prefer US sales but I'm willing to look at other destinations on a case by case basis. Paypal only please with no added fees.
Thanks for looking,
Scott
