My Father brought 3 khukris and 2 machete like knives (he said they were Intu's, correct spelling unknown) back home from WWII. He fought in the CBI (China/Burma/India) theatre. I now have them. If I can post pictures or a link can anyone identify them?

Thanks, Steve

You can't post pictures with your membership, but you could describe them to us. What a marvelous bring-back.
You could send photos by email to certain members who might evaluate them for you. They may appear in this thread.

Welcome.

Thank you Monk. I don't understand about the membership. I post and attach all the time on the knifemakers forum. Can I show a link to my website where they would be displayed?

These knives mean alot to me. I spent countless hours playing with them as a boy some 48 years ago and they remind me of my Dad.

It would be nice to ID them. The Kuk's probably came fron India and the machete like Intu's may have come from China.

I also have a real heavy Kuk I bought from Uncle Bill. It's a lifetime knife for sure.

Should I throw up a website with knife pics and just post a link?

Thanks, Steve

Hi, Steve.

Yes, you can link to a site to display your kuks.

The upper level members can also upload files(pic) directly onto BladeForum's server. That's what munk is referencing.

:)

OK. I can do that. Look for some interesting pics late Saturday and a link.

Thanks, Steve

I took the pictures and threw up a hasty website this afternoon to display my Kuks and unidentified machetes.

Can anyone tell me about the origin, history, etc about them?

Here is my site: http://members.cox.net/nettech3

Thank you for looking and helping.

Steve, I believe the items that you are refering to as "machete like" are naga dha/dao. To the best of my knowledge they were used in Burma and Assam and the surrounding areas as both a weapon and as a tool. I have always liked their appearance, although I do not own one myself. Hopefully someone with more info will pipe up soon to shed some more light on this for you.:)

edit: I forgot my manners! Welcome to our corner of cyberspace! Hope you stick around and have some fun.

Steve, I can't wait until the historians and collectors get a look at your blades. They look wonderful to me. I think one of those is a WWll- maybe an m43. But I'm just guessing- the real folks who know will square these away for you.

What a special group you have there.

Again, welcome to HI forum.

I think you're going to have fun.

Steve?

You might want to pull your email from the public post. Bots/bad guys/boogie men come and steal them.

When Bill Marsh and Steve Ferguson see your link, you will have your information, I betcha.

Very nicely made small knives.

Welcome aboard, Steve.

Not only are those great khukuri, but the knives you made are very impressive!
The link to your father is, however, priceless.

Neat old khukuris, and I bet you get some info from the gents mentioned.

You brought 'em to the right place...

Bienvenido.

Hi Kis:

Sorry, I don't understand the jargon in your post. I don't understand about pulling a post and something about stealing. I'm new to this forum and just don't follow you, but your post sounds ominous and I want to understand your warning.

Hi Berkley:

That's it! You found the exact machete. I almost fell off my chair when I went to your links. The machete and sheath are a match.

I can't thank you enough. I will go and learn more about the Dha and the tribes.

The Dao for sal had a bright blade where mine have dark natural color blades (no rust). I had no idea they were laminated blades.

Steve,

There are machines- search engines- that look for email addresses to send spam (unwanted email) to. They will pick up your email address if you leave it posted on the board for long.

It is suggested that you remove your email address from your earlier post. (You're protected on most boards, if you have your email address listed in your profile, because typically only members can view this information.)

Thanks for the info, Berkley. :)

Steve, I didn't understand Kismet either, perhaps he's on to something.

Many forumites include email addresses so people can write them. Information like the Yahoo or Messenger programs are often part of the signature of the poster, and in the Public profile each member decides upon what information to include as well.

EDIT; Oh, I see after reading Spectre's post, (which must have crossed mine while I was composing) what Kismet was talking about. Yes, your decision always.

Thank you Kiz and Munk. I will stop posting my e-mail address and remove it from where I can remember leaving it. I am too open I guess and will stop that.

Thanks, Steve
