For the last several months I've been working for a metal sculptor on this commission piece to go in the Veteran's Park of a local nearby town. It is 5figures, one from each branch of the military and one Navy WAVES to represent the women who served and supported the servicemen.
If I had thought this through entirely (not my strongest point) I would have waited to post this until I had a few photos of the completed and installed piece; however, I will be getting some later this week.
Also, the Army piece is an African American soldier which Mr. Collins, the sculptor, insisted had a plaque of its own to commerate the Red Ball Express- http://www.fatherryan.org/blackmilitary/redball.htm - a group that saved his life on two different occasions.
myself and the Navy sculpture:
I'm not scowling out of a dislike for Navy personnel
its just that the cast head gets pretty durn heavy to hold while a pair of artists are discussing proper chin placement and the like.
Hands:
Most of the hands were cast but we simply did not have enough time (sculpture needed to be done by the 4th) to get the last set cast as well so I and Lynn (whom some of you no doubt know from here, kf, or anvilfire, or possibly Atlanta) created this pair from sheet bronze. it was a PITA.
Actually, truth be told, Lynn created the hands... I just ran my silicon bronze beads wherever he directed me!
And the artist hisself, I love this man like a father; if there is space in the 21st century for a Renaissance man then he embodies the definition and spirit of the phrase.
Anyways, I hope you all enjoy looking here; I wanted to share these with people I thought would enjoy them and don't knowof a better place to post.
I'll be taking photos of the completed sculpture in the next week or so, it looks pretty nice with the sculptures arranged in a 5 point star around the American flag. Personally, I wanted to see military flags representing each of the 4 branches with the American flag behind and above them but this was left up to the town council who, strangely, did not care to even pretend to listen to the words or opinion of a worker bee like myself.
