Ain't boogered up no more. Dadgum Uncle, was that feller that sent it back using it to hack down a thicket of re-bar? The edge was so bent and wavy the durn thing didn't want to come out of the scabbard. Now it slides in and out of the scabbard smooth as silk, and cleanly shaves throughout the entire length of the cutting edge. Regrinding changed the blade shape only a little, and if anything just enhanced handling and balance, which was already very good (I've come to expect that from Bura). Sweet, sweet, khukuri, handles nearly as quick as my "Magic Sirupati" (also by Bura), but in a much more ferocious way. Don't know whether to refer to it as a "WWII Lite" or a "Souped up Sirupati", but it's one bad hombre, and the best thirty bucks I ever spent. I'll get pics up soon as I'm able.:D

If you have before and after pix that would be great. I like to show folks what can be done to a khukuri that somebody junked. When I had access to the shop 10 or 12 years ago I'd save 9 out of 10 and as far as I know all the "saved" models are still in the field doing their job. Broken tangs were the easiest fix for me and I never heard of one breaking again.

Sorry Uncle, I forgot to take before pics. That thing literally went from it's triangular box to my grinder 'cause it hurt my heart to look at it in the condition it was in. Before it went back into it's scabbard it was reground, polished down to 1,000 grit, honed, stropped, and oiled.:)

once you pulled that khuk out of the box, Sarge.

As I recall, the first reaction is "Wow, it's here already." The second: "What in the **** did this guy DO with this thing?" The third is: "I can fix this..that part isn't too bad...why didn't he...well this will work if I do this here and that there...." The fourth is: " YES!!! Now for the pretty-ing up."

Then the after-glow. A shame you don't smoke cigarettes.:)

Congratulations. I think it is beautiful. You should be proud.

Yup, now I'm sure he's up to something:rolleyes: :D He probably wants to know if a 12" AK is best carried strong side or cross draw, seeing as how he's not got much experience with khuks under a foot and a half.;)

Geez Kis, nothing as glamorous as that, more like grinding stone dings out of a lawnmower blade. It's a good knife, well forged blade, very comfortable horn handle. I feel a little bit ashamed of myself for only paying Uncle thirty bucks for it just because the edge was boogered up. My haste to get it squared away is an old country boy habit, when you're done with an axe, hoe, etc., you clean it up, and, if need be, sharpen it up before you put it away. Next time you grab it, it'll be ready to go.;)
