my wife got away for a couple days and headed for Chico Hot Springs in the beautiful Paradise Valley (just north of Yellowstone) for some x-country skiing in the Absaroka-Beartooth's

we stayed at Chico Hot Springs and old resort that has natural hot springs pumped into an outdoor pool, they also have a five star gourmet restaurant to boot :)

we had very favorable weather both days, not overly warm, but not overly cold either- very nice snow too

our first day we skied about 4 hours, returned and soaked for an hour or so and then ate some burgers about as big as your head

second day we skied for about 6 hours (was 4.5 hours going up and less than 1.5 hours going down!!), soaked for a couple of hours and then dined at their 5 star restaurant- we both starving which made the great food taste even better

a wonderful trip- pretty sure we'll be back :)

Great stuff. Seems x-country skiing is pretty popular these days, have seen a couple interesting trip reports in the past couple years.

We're hoping to make it to the Beartooths this summer. Hope there's a bit less snow then!

thanks gents! :) if anyone is contemplating a trip into Montana in the future, this would be a good area summer or winter- you're just a stone's throw from Yellowstone Park, this stretch of the Yellowstone is one of the premier trout fisheries in the world, lots and lots of day hiking/backpacking right out the door and nothing beats soaking in a natural hot spring after a day outdoors and it's truly a 5 star restaurant (spendy, but good)

really a nice place to bring your significant other (they even have a spa!), while still enjoying the great outdoors- best of both worlds :D

Gorgeous looking wilderness.

Thanks for taking the time to share.....its a nice escape from the desk & drudgery!
